    Buying Autographs From Universities?

I have been to a few college sites and noticed that many will have auctions for autographed items or even just sell Coach signed items. Here for instance is a portions of the autograph policy for Kentucky:

"UK Athletics head coaches are pleased to sign autographs for the Big Blue Nation. However, due to several factors, including NCAA legislation and compliance issues, the increased unauthorized use and sale of autographed items, and the volume of requests, the athletic department has followed suit of many universities across the country and instituted guidelines for obtaining autographs to be used for charitable organizations, fundraisers, door prizes, and/or for personal use. UK Athletics is unable to provide student-athlete signatures, therefore, this process is for obtaining head coach's signatures only.
Items which have been pre-purchased may NOT be mailed in, or dropped off, for autographing or signature within UK Athletics. Requests will not be accepted by individual coaches' offices, Marketing Department, Media Relations, or Ticket Office as all requests must be made via the formal process listed on this webpage.
Due to the volume of requests, our head coaches will sign a limited supply of balls each fiscal year (July 1-June 30) that will be sold at $50 per ball (limited to one ball per sport for each household/organization request per fiscal year) on a first-come-first-serve basis. The cost of the item(s) includes a ball provided and signed by UK and covers the cost of shipping via UPS. All requests submitted with payment are NOT guaranteed to be fulfilled. Requests not fulfilled will have their application returned and will receive a full refund."

Has anyone been buying items like these from colleges? Seriously a signed basketball from John Calipari for $50 does not sound that bad. What are your guys thoughts?

    Hello Indy,

I only have experience dealing with Penn State, but they constantly have autographed and game-used balls and jerseys up for auction on its website. I don't think I've ever seen any current players' autograph up for auction though. They're normally coaches.

Missouri has a ball signed by the whole team for $50, kind of spendy, but I think they might win it all this year. Lol UNC sells coach Williams autographed photos for $10 and other items like team balls, etc., if I remember correctly. I send lots of email requests and more and more of the schools just reply with either a price sheet and a request form, a link to their policy or a link to auctions, now a days.
