i will say it here too..ovechkin was and will be better without the C. He played better and played at his own pace and challenged anyone one on one. He accepted more responsibility and has since passed up on many opportunities to play like his former self. i am a fan of ovechkin and hope to see him not wear the C

Ovechkin hasn't been told anything, he's been told to go score goals, forget defense, and that's something's he isn't capable of.
Ovie is a bottom 25 player now, one hit wonder.
Crosby vs Ovie is over, it's giroux vs stamkos now

Giroux vs Stamkos? Lol. Stamkos has almost double the goals. Stamkos vs Malkin perhaps.

While I somewhat agree about Malkin, he has been anything be inconsistent this year. He has carried the team is Sid's absence.

I do understand your point to an extent. But why continue to play "defense" minded hockey if it hasn't gotten you anywhere? If they are focusing on defense, they need to bring in some people who can play defense.
I've very rarely Ovechkin play any sort of defense, so I don't even know if you can call it defense. He is a "me" player and will always been that. He is the T.O. of Hockey.
In addition, his supporting cast isn't the greatest, I can agree with that. But he does have some talent around him that "he" doesn't make better.

Ovechkin's problem is that he can't carry the team on his back. He is trying to do too much all by himself yet his work ethic is not good. He cares too much and gets frustrated easily when things aren't going well. Semin is not the player of a couple of seasons ago. Neither is Green. Backstrom being out with a concussion really hurts Washington. They should have stuck with Bruce Brodeau as the head coach instead of firing him when the team was 12-9-1.

I update it
Malkin hasn't been inconsistent this year, but I'm talking yearly
For the next few years it will likely be this three way battle for best player
(pending sids return)
