    collection advice requested

Hello all.. I have a general question and any advice would be appreciated.

I have a collection of cards (about 95% baseball) from 91 and earlier. There are at least 3000 cards. My question is what is a good strategy for organizing and apprasing them?

I expect that the vast majority are going to be common and worth not much at all, maybe a dime or two if that. I also know that some are more rare (checked them on Beckett).

My guess is to arrange according to approximate value .. maybe something like "common" (.20 and below), "moderate" (.20 to 1.00) and seperate out any particularly unusual ones where the estimated value is over a buck. In each group, sort by card # ?. Of course this supposes the value on Beckett is determinable. For a given card, there is often quite a range even though it seems we are talking cents (saw some priced anywhere betweeon .08 and .75). And without a doubt log them in a spreadsheet to pump into an Access database.

With this many cards, the Great Wall of China seems like an easy build. I am quite new at this and any advice would be appreciated.

    Your on the right track..
Sort By Rc's, then Star/Regional Power. For storage, I find last name easiest.

Finally, and time permiting, just sort the commons numerically by set & yr.

Hey, if you get a chance, let us know what those 'rare' cards are that you were talking about.
    Thanks, and good luck organizing!!

Btw.. it took me 3 months to slowly sort and organize my 94-98 basketball cards.. they now occupy half my closet at home.

You have the right idea about sorting minor stars, stars and super stars by value.

For commons, I would sort them by card company and year, or by team.

    Good luck.

I would sort by year, set, and numerical order. If you have any good rookies I'd pull those. For instance Tony Gwynn pull, Roberto Alomar keep in common box. Stars and minor stars today may not be tomorrow. Good luck.
