Redemption Card Noted on Checklist?
I was thinking about this the other day - would it be helpful to collectors if the card companies told them which cards were going to be redemptions at the packout stage? Obviously we know through the magic of forums' breaks sections and eBay that it doesn't take long to figure it out, but wouldn't it be handy if they gave us that information up front and, through their website, offered updates as to changes in status?
Even something as simple as putting "EXCH" or "Redemption" next to a card on the website checklist I think would be great. They could also have a separate page so that collectors can be apprised of any updates.
It's one of those little things that UD & Panini could do that would make people's lives much easier. If a product is 6 months old you may not have that instant memory recall about whether the Ales Hemsky auto you've always wanted made it back from Edmonton in time, and a publicly available database would be of tremendous benefit for collectors who may base their decision on whether to purchase Product X for a live PC autograph.
Discuss.
And isn't it great that we don't need to look at ITG in this discussion, on account of, y'know, having all content packed out with 100% live autographs?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

The only thing I can comment on is that at least UD Puts the player and numbering (if available) on the actual redemption! Sometimes its frustrating getting a Panini redemption and theres no checklist available at the time!

I would really like it if both could start releasing checklists before they release the products.
After that, I think what you've suggested would be great. Add EXCH or RED or something next to the card...... and also have a page that lists all redemptions cards (maybe a new page for each year) and show the status: Still Waiting, In House, Expired.
They want our money - give us as much info about what we're buying as possible.

I think you have an amazing idea there!!! It would also help if they included the expiration dates of said product so that in the future you can decide if you want to break it or not based on the information ( i have been burned by 05/06 hot prospects recently and wouldnt have bought the product if i knew alot of the better players were redemptions and they were expired

Two comments:
1. When Sports Card Radio builds a checklist for a new release, they normally indicate on their checklist whether or not the card is a Redemption.
2. The card companies want you to buy their products when they are released and if you knew in advance that your PC players cards were all redemptions, you may choose not to buy the product until the redemptions were live. For this reason, I think it is not in their best interest to announce in advance what cards are redemptions.

Yeah well it'd be nice if they'd put our interests front and centre for a change. I realize I'm asking for a lot here given that they don't even give us a checklist before the product is released - asking to know what cards on said checklist are actually in the packs...whew, you're out there McAdam!

They would never do this as it not wise for their sales to do so. So you are dreaming if you think they would. They have issue putting all checklist before the product is release. Many company don't even put them. Ask other sports...

honestly the last couple years BOTH panini and UD have bordered on false advertising....panini stating gordie auto available in said product...didnt happen....2010-11 ultimate collection sales sheet had gretzky shield auto that wasnt even made...just a couple examples that have made a place in my memory

Redemptions usually (usually not always) expire after 2 years of the release.
You say you were recently burned on 05/06 hot prospects thats 6-7 years old. Did you honestly expect a 6-7 year old redemption to not be expired?
