Rookie Questions: Private Signings and Card Values

It's only been about a month and a half since I've started to collect again. I ended up pulling a Jonathan Toews Private Signings from a group break and was wondering...what is a private signings? What makes it so special? Or is it even THAT special?

That leads me to the next question. All this ambiguity over card values (or at least, that's what I think of card value, especially when I first encountered this with my 1/1). How does Beckett really determine these "book values." They seem to be grossly exaggerated to the values I see cards go for on Ebay. And last one, what's with these "trade value" and "sell value" business? When I see people post trade topics on a card they specifically have FT/FS they put for example: $400 Trade Value, $200 sale value or something like that. Why is the trade value higher than the sale value?

Hopefully this makes my trade dealing a little more effiecient because half the time I never know whether or not I'm making a good trade or not.

    Thanks for the help SCF!

Private Signings are a global Panini set that is in most(all?) of their products. There are only so many players in each product as well, so the Toews from 11-12, can only be pulled from Crown Royale packs.

Your guess about Beckett is as good as anyone's on how they determine pricing. eBay is much better indicator of market/sale value. But a card is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

The Beckett High Value is always out of whack! What I do find good about Beckett is that they have a Low and a High Value. The Low value usually does compare with the completed sales on eBay. It does come in handy when there isnt a completed sales to go by.

I think for our trade though the high value is the best way to go, wouldn't you say?

alright since i see a bunch of hodgson collectors in on this one ,why not join myself lol. ive found that beckett values are indeed on par with sales AT first pricing for a product. as time goes by and demand lowers and prices lower. it doesnt seem like beckett keeps up with the pricing as it lowers.and i go by the whole SV/TV thing as well because i realize that my 400 bv card wont draw 400 cash but dont want to be offered a 200 bv card in trade for it.
