Basketball card Q's
Hey Basketball Board!
I am an exclusive football guy, but I find I am watching more and learning more about basketball. Really enjoying it.
Anyway, I am just curious about the basketball card scene...
In football, the only things with any real value are: rookie autos, rookie patch autos, #'d rookie cards, and not much else. Vet cards are practically worthless unless it's an auto of a superstar. Vet inserts and parallels are similarly worthless except to team/player collectors.
Anyone feel up to giving a newb a rundown on what's what in the basketball card scene? What manufacturers are best? What sets produce the most sought after rookie cards, inserts, etc?
Cheers dudes!

Right now panini is the only company that produces liscenced nba cards. If you like to college basketball cards UD produces some college sets that include rookies and vets in their college uniforms. Also keep in mind that the new nba hoops cards that everyone is jumping up and down over do not contain any rookies so I would stay away from them. Good luck to you and happy collecting.

Cool, thanks! Any more input?
Any recommended sets for rookies? #'d inserts? Are autos a big thing in basketball cards?

Obviously autos of stars are a big thing. Even role players can command money, looking at Lin. Anything MJ is premium and commands a high price but he only signs for Upper Deck so you'll have to take that into consideration.
Im new and have only busted 09/10 upper deck and the UNC set, but I've brought singles from other lots. The 09/10 was good for a beginner as it contained a rookie every pack and guaranteed an auto or GU per box and it was while UD still had their NBA licence. Plus there were tons of inserts. The rookie class was good too with Blake, Rubio, Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough, Gerald Henderson etc

I'll make it simple
Panini is the only company with a license
They have only made one product this year (Hoops - overvalued by quite a bit. Usually will get stuck with an auto of someone like Semih Erden if you're lucky. NO ROOKIES either)
95% of their autos are sticker autos
They have the worst redemption process any company has ever had in my opinion
Most of their products from last season will get you maybe one of 5 super stars they have in their contract... If not you will get a rookie auto, or absolute terrible players.
That pretty much sums it up in my opinion to be honest
