Upper Deck Redemption Rant
The employees of Upper Deck are incredibly clueless when it comes to replacing redemption cards that were not produced. I personally believe that if you redeem a card and they did not produce it that it is their responsibility to make it right with their customer (within reason of course). With that said I recently received this response when I expressed my displeasure over my redemption replacement.
Dear XXX,
Here at Upper Deck, we use the Beckett Value of cards to determine pricing.
According to Beckett, your 09-10 Tyler Myers’ RC is valued at $50.00, and your Ryan Miller Sign of the Times card is valued at $25.00. While we apologize that you are not happy with the cards you received, you did receive a comparable value to the card you redeemed.
Thank you,
Upper Deck Customer Care
** I previously advised them that I bought the redemption 10-11 SPGU Tyler Myers Letter Marks for over $50 on secondary market and explained that I collect Letter Marks (evidenced in UD account history with other redemptions), I could have bought the cards they gave me for less than $25 on EBAY. The fact that they use Beckett value is absolutely fantasy land. Plus how do they use Beckett to value a card that they did not produce?? And that does not even take into consideration that it took 6 months to get me two crappy replacements and one of them had worn corners. Their attention to customer service is unacceptable and I often wonder how many complaints I would generate if I handled my business like THEY DO!!! Any advice with dealing with this Mickey Mouse operation would be appreciated.

That is BRUTAL. If you haven't yet, call Upper Deck and talk to someone on the phone and explain your issue with the replacement. You will get much better customer service over the phone than via email. Hopefully you get something better than what you ended up with.

Stop buying boxes that have redemptions in them?

Very unfortunate. Give them a call and ask to speak with someone that can help resolve the problem. Be polite - sugar gets you further than vinegar.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I sent in a replacement for a 10-11 SPA Thomas McCollum Future Watch auto. In replacement I get a crappy antti niemi Debut threads. That won't even get a bid at $0.99! The McCollum is selling at $60! I think I should give them a call instead of an email..

Thanks for the feedback
Hilfiger1975- Most, if not all higher end UD products have redemptions unfortunately.

Wow, I'm definitely NOT gonna buy a redemption on the bay until the stuff is live. I really hope they get their act together soon.

I'll never EVER buy a UD redemption anymore, and if I happen to pull one, I sell it online or locally instantly (Artifacts RR's are the only exception since they seem to be the only thing I ever receive from them). I've been 'screwed' by UD for thousands of dollars, and it can only happen so long before you realize that when they hold all the cards (pardon the pun), you just can't win with them. It isn't worth kissing their you know what's to 'hopefully' get a nice replacement. This is their J-O-B. Do it, or get outta Dodge.
Panini on the other hand has been not only fast and friendly in my experience, but ACTUALLY sends things out on a regular basis! I don't have the amount of cards redeemed as others, but to date all cards I redeemed showed up in the mail. Considering the alternative... I'm a happy camper. Maybe try your luck on a Panini Product instead?
Wow it feels good to spit that out. I apologize if anyone has taken offense. None was meant. Just struck a chord.
If I need to sum it up in one sentence: Vote with your wallet if it's a big enough concern.
Cheers
