Kobe UD Exquisite 1/1 Sells for $21K!!!
http://www.examiner.com/trading-card...or-over-21-000
One of the Holy Grails of the modern basketball trading card world switched hands this past Monday for a whopping $21,124.81. The 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection 1/1 parallel of Kobe Bryant was won in an epic bidding battle that rivaled just about any high-value vintage or Michael Jordan card in recent memory.
The auction took place over a five-day period and the bidding was up to $7,200 with three hours remaining. While that number was exorbitant already, nobody could have expected how it would end. With less than 10 seconds to go, 3 bids jumped it up from $7,500 to the final number.
...
What is interesting about this story is that if you look at the card, the only "gimmick" that is has besides being a 1/1 parallel is that it comes from a super high-end product that cost $500 per pack at release. While the legend of Exquisite Collection just grows with each passing day and with the growing resentment of Panini and their stranglehold on the NBA card market as its exclusive manufacturer, collectors are going back to the past and picking up cards that they treasure. There is no autograph or player-worn memorabilia to speak of. As popular as cards that include a piece of the player however flimsy it might be, it is very surprising - and a little cool - to know that a card can stand on its merits.

Congrats to the proud owner!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
