Card Industry has changed.
I used to collect when I was younger big-time, i've got tons of 5,000 count boxes and stuff just sitting in my closets and had a lot of solid rookie cards (monanta, marino, rice, payton, favre, etc, etc) (bought pre-grading era, which is essentially when I stopped collecting around 1999 or so).
Now my interest has been repeaked, and i've noticed some shocking differences.
Firstly, what is with this humongous obsession with Game-Used and Autographs, damn. I remember when there were maybe 3-4 sets that had GU/or/Autos in them and they were hard as hell to nab. Now you've got things like 1 in every pack o.O
Secondly, what's with companies giving us less cards? I strolled through k-mart after buying a card, of the birthday kind, and glanced at the football boxes they had. I found it odd that just about every "pack" had only 4 or 5 cards in each. What happened to 12-15 or so??

You now have "cut signatures".
Something new will always come along that people feel the need to go crazy for and then when that fades something new will come along.
I bought like 4 game used cards back in 1999 and haven't bought any since. I mean they are nice but I don't get the obsession either.

Second reason is that since they are spending the money to get autographs and pieces of stuff glued to cards the price of producing cards goes up so they have to cut back on production of the cards to cut costs.Selling all my cards here updated as of May------------> Hidden Content

Ah I guess i'm old fashioned in that I would love for a set to be out that has just about every player on the team in a base card and nice fat ™™™ packs. I also have an odd tendency to like cards that show you the players entire career statistics (as opposed to say the last 4-5 years or so)
What are "cut" signatures?

Appears to be a check.

Wait...so...... they basically just sign a check and then they cut it and stick it on.
...okay. Or are they actually put together by the owner, like did the guy actually get it from the player and basically made "his own" autograph card.

They buy autographed items from collectors or whatever. Then cut it out and put it in the card. Like they'll go to a place that sells autographs, buy it and put it in the card.

Babe Ruth can't sign a card for Upper Deck so Upper Deck cuts up a piece of paper that has his signature and then they put it on the card so it becomes a "cut signature". But now companies are doing cut signatures for people like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays who are still alive so its stupid in my eyes atleast. I mean the only way to obtain an autograph card of Babe Ruth is to get a cut signature but Hank Aaron can sign cards any time he wants so why anybody would want a cut of him is beyond me.
