Is Mark Jackson a Hall of Famer???

Please don't respond unless you've read the story above because it does make points for him and against him.

If I were voting I would not put him into the Hall of Fame. All that he basically has is #2 on the all time assists list. If it wasn't for that we would not even be talking about the guy. It's just that I do not think that Mark Jackson has been a very good player over the past 20 years and even though he has had a lot of assists I would not vote him in.

What about you guys?

If Roger Marris isn't in the baseball Hall of Fame for a statistic, Mark Jackson shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame either.

I am going to admit right off the bat pwaldo that I didn't read the article. However, I am very familiar with Jackson and his career. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see him make it in I personally wouldn't put him in. I like him a lot and he is very good but he has those stats because he has played so long. I never would have even ranked him as a top 5 pg in the league.

I compare his stats to defense in baseball. After Ozzie I don't feel there will ever be another player to go to the HOF for pure defense.

In the same light do you think Rodman will make it in for his dominance in rebounds?

Tough question.

For some reason though when I think of defense shortstop I think of Ozzie and dominant rebounder in the NBA I think of Rodman. But I just don't think of Mark Jackson when you say great assist man.

I guess I'll have to say it's Jose Canseco going into the HOF. People were saying even if he hit 500 HRS he was never going to get in and that HRS were what he was known for.

I don't think Canseco is a Hall Of Famer so I'd have to say Mark Jackson isn't.

I don't think Jackson should be in the HOF. Granted, he's had great years and is an assist master, but he doesn't have that aura guys like Shaq and MJ have.

BGray -- I do think Rodman deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, definitely not as a 1st- or a 2nd-ballet hall of famer, but he should be in there.

First, he has tremendous FUNDAMENTAL skills on defense. He knew how to block out, where shots were going to go when his teammates missed them, how to be active enough to get offensive rebounds, and how to play tough defense.

His downfall will be that his off-court exploits dwarf his on-court skills.

But anyone who loves defense and has watched Rodman play, esp. during those tough Pistons teams, know that Rodman was one hell of a defender.

I think he did enough to merit consideration.

I just finished reading the article on Mark Jackson, and whether or not he should be in the Hall.

the answer: NO.

What has he done to merit being in the hall?

Other than hanging around long enough to dish out more assists than Magic (remember Magic's career was cut short due to HIV virus), he's got nothing else under his belt.

Statistics alone shouldn't get you into the Hall, you must have done something worthwhile that people will remember.

Take James Worthy, considered one of the greatest 50 players of all time. He's still waiting to be inducted.

Now, back in the 1980s, with showtime, Worthy was the best finisher on a fast break (no one since then is better). Not only that, he was absolutely CLUTCH in the play-offs. There's a reason writers dubbed him Big Game James.

Worthy finished a career that wasn't exactly distinguished with fabulous stats. But while he played, he did so with flair and was as reliable as they come.


Worthy deserves to be inducted; Jackson -- no.

Furthermore, did Jackson ever make a big contribution in the play-offs for the teams that he played for? I don't remember...perhaps someone who followed him more closely can answer that question.
