    2012 Topps Tribute

    2012 Topps Tribute

    Per box items:
    6 packs per box
    5 cards per pack
1 autographed or relic card #/99 or less in every pack

    Topps sell sheet

The base set cards are thicker than standard size. The card fronts feature a full color action shot of the player superimposed over a silver metallic background. The border-less cards fade to white at the bottom and have a 'refractor' finish to them. The set logo, player name, team name and player position are all centered at the card bottom. The backs consist of a smaller cropped head-shot of the picture on the front, team logo and major career highlights. There are no statistics listed.

    What I pulled:
    30 unique cards, no duplicates
    18 base set cards = 18/100 = 18% of the base set
    5 serially numbered parallels
6 encased autographed or relic cards #/99 or less
    1 One-of-One printing plate

    Base card front and back:

    The Parallels:
    Cruz and Fisk Blue #/199
    Griffey and Green #/75
    Cobb and Cruz #/50

    The Hits:
    Wilhelm World Series relic #/99
    Ogando autograph #/99
Smith Blue World Series relic #/50
    Hudson gold autograph #15/15
    Jones relic #/99
    Ryne Sandberg auto #/99
Willie Mays black printing plate 1/1

    ************************************************** *******

Wow, just wow. 2012 Topps Tribute is a loaded product! The base cards are top notch, very simple yet awesome design. I love the mix of current players and retired stars. Simple to understand parallel tiers and just a solid lay out and quality control make for a superb product! Then there are the hits! Every hit being serially numbered? - great. Every hit being encased? - even better. Pulling your first ever printing plate? mind numbing! I have pulled a couple of 1/1's before, but never a printing plate and never a player the caliber of Willie Mays!. The only real drawback I have about 2012 Topps Tribute is that the refractor finish on front and high gloss backs take fingerprints and smudges VERY easily, handle with care.

    The Bottom Line:
I give 2012 Topps Tribute a buy rating. Not one for prospectors, but the thrill of the lottery ticket and pulling a big hit are almost too much to pass up! Flipping cards to make your money back or complete the base set should be pretty easy. Buy a box and trade Rickey Henderson cards to me!

    The Final Score:
    Final Ratings (Out of 5):
    Base set collect-ability: 2/5
    Big-hit Hunter: 5/5
    Prospector Hunter:NA
    Overall Design: 5/5
    Fun: 5/5
    Value: 4/5
    Re-buy: 5/5
    Overall Quality: 5/5

    Overall: 31/35 (88.57% = B)

Topps sent me this box to review for Full Spectrum Baseball. As always I am offering base and insert cards to members here for a SASE.

Thanks to Topps for making this review possible!
