Thanks for all the help so far. Got another couple I'd like an opinion on. Are commons (Elston, Maglie or any other commons) worth getting graded?

If you're planning to sell then grading that '58 Mantle/Aaron is probably going to be a nice win. Maybe the Hodges too. For commons there's not much market for graded cards unless they're at least an 8 or maybe a 9 - mostly only those who are playing the TPGs' registry games have interest. Take a guess at the grade you think a card might attain and then do a search of the completed auctions on ebay for similar and you can determine whether you want to invest that extra $8 or $10 in the card. Oh, and I think that both the Mantle/Aaron and Hodges will grade between 6 and 7 - and Maglie and Elston 7 to 8 range - I'd give Elston an 8.5 and Maglie a 7.5 due to the blemish near his left elbow. For the Mantle/Aaron and Hodges, the discriminator is likely to be the corners - check them each with a jeweler's loop or magnifying glass and see whether or not there appears to be any fraying when observed under magnification - it's often hard to tell from pics whether one is seeing fraying or just a rough factory cut that was common on many of these older cards - often it's hard to tell a 6 from an 8 via picture.

Just took a look at the recently completed auctions on ebay - a PSA 8 Elston or Maglie will likely fetch $40-$60 depending on the day - a PSA 6 Hodges will fetch similar money - a PSA 6 Mantle/Aaron upwards of $150.

Thanks. I might start using that as a guide. If I sold these, I didn't want to list them at 99 cents because it might go for that. If I listed at a set price, it might not sell and I'd be wasting my money.
