    quick question guys

I got a sign of the times from 04-05. 5 guys inked up this card such as luongo, Kovelchuk, heatley, lehtonen, and weiss. There is a sticker on the back that states Authenticity guaranteed. I traded for this card and did not receive a separate card that states the same.. IS there a card that goes with this which should have been with the card for trade or is this card the same way as it was pulled or redeemed?

the guy i traded with says that they didnt come out with the extra authenticity cards at this time. But the guy who i was trading with says the card is worthless without it and it should have been with the card.

so im super confused on what to do here.
    any suggestions?

don't let the guy convince you that it is worthless. You can call upper deck. There is a serial number on or near the sticker. They should be able to use that to authenticate and send you a letter to confirm.

He's just trying to get a deal. Don't bite.

There is a card that is supposed to go with it, but all it states is the authenticity. As adamslogik said above, you should be able to contact UD to confirm the authenticity if need be.

The guy who you traded with may have traded for it and didn't get it either. Beucase the COA is a seperate card, they sometimes get lost along the way.

As for the "worthless" comment, that's obviously not true. If he doubts the authenticity, there are other ways to confirm it. However, the lack of a COA may make it less appealing, but it shouldn't have a huge impact on value.

If the guy is saying "its worthless, but I still want it", he's just trying to fish a great deal. Call his bluff. If he says "its worthless, I'm not interested", he just wants the COA and you'll have to go to someone else to trade the card.

I added an image of a COA to this post, so you can see what one looks like.

I was the one who made the trade for the fives auto and without the COA the card is worthless to me. I am not and did not ask to get the card cheaper, I simply returned the card to him as when I trade for a card it must be complete. Without that card there is no COA proof. As for contacting UD, I should not have to, when I trade for a card it better all be there, I am not the one who took this guy for trading him the card and saying there was no separate COA card. Plain and simply, there was no COA card which should have been there and thus I call off the trade and returned his card.

Card holds same value either way, a simple call to UD gets you a new COA to go with it. Its obvious the card is not fake, its a pack pulled UD 5 auto card

It does not hold the same value and I just contacted Upper Deck, THERE IS A $30 FEE FOR COA REPLACEMENT!!! When I trade for a card I do not expect to pay from my pocket to make it complete.

I never understood why UD did this extra card COA thing in the first place. They are near impossible to fake and it has an authentication sticker on it already.

Well, there is the answer to the original OP.

Without the COA, the card is worth 30$ less than when it had the COA.

'Worthless' may be an overstatement or exasperation in having to do an extra step/pay extra funds to get the card back into its original condition.

As I said before, it also depends on who you trade it to. Some people care about the COA, some don't. Personally, I like the COA. Not sure if i like it 30$, but its a good piece to have.

    Cheers,

I really think it comes down to a case of buyers remorse and the guy just decided he didn't want the card.
