CBC’s Ron MacLean Attempts Hackneyed Comparison Of Hockey Players To 9/11 First Respo
CBC host Ron MacLean opened tonight's coverage of the Stanley Cup playoff Game Six bout between the Capitals and Rangers with an extended and tortuous metaphor claiming the players were "like firefighters, like police officers," and throwing in 9/11 references.
While MacLean began his statement saying "it is crazy to compare what the emergency responders did in that time," he went on to do exactly that, then attempted to recover with (about firefighters) "our worst day is their every day." For once, Don Cherry wasn't the one saying something stupid. [CBC]

It's not often that Rotten Ronny's the one that leaves me dumbfounded, but that was epic stupid.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I get the point he's making about egos, but that was a pretty bad idea from the start.

If I were the husband, father, brother, child of a firefighter or police officer that died on 9/11 I'd probably be a bit upset at the comparison of a hockey game to that day's events. Fortunately I have no immediate family that was anywhere near either city so I can cast this off as idiotic banter.

I think very highly of Ron MacLean, but I knew right away that that opening was not going to sit well with a lot of people.
