Contenders worth it?
After seeing a few breaks here and on a few break sites, IMO, I do not think this product is worth the $108 price point.
I mean, in most boxes I saw, the buyer had recieved 2-3 calder autos (nothing special) and a not so good NHL ink (guys like glencross and clutterbuck.)
I know they are hard signed, but is the value there?

Nope. Like most Panini products, the retail price at release is wayyyy too high. I think at maybe the $75 price range these boxes will hold some value...but at $108 a box, its a complete joke. I really thought the thing that was going to stand out about this product were the patch/autos...but the thicker pen really takes away from them. The bigger names RCs will hold quite some value, but from early indication they fall few and far between.

I really don't see a difference between this contenders release and an SPA release from any other year.
Maybe the respect for the brand name isn't there but they both have thier share of terrible autos and rc's in each box

Who started a comparison between this product and SP Authentic? That must have come from the Panini Knights Lance Blog or someone who doesn't collect hockey cards.

So basically what I am hearing is this:
For $108.00 I risk getting 2 autos of players whose auto cards sell for $2.00 each either here on SCF or on eBay.
I get one obscure rookie that may never take a shift in the NHL that will only sell for $1.00 provided that I sell it immediately.
And a couple of cards #/499 ??
That's it for $108.00. Seriously????
It's no wonder that I have not opened a Hobby Box since 2003-04. It was $55.00 and I got a ton more than above.

This is an incredibly valid point. I've never really understood the allure of SPA. The only difference I can tell so far is that in SPA some of the bigger rookies seem to drop at a more frequent pace. Take a look at Frankiefives 2 case break of contenders...in 2 case breaks, out of all the hot rookies, he basically pulled one Nugent-Hopkins and 2 Scheifele.

Well, people seem to value on-card autos more then sticker autos.
The fact is, I would rather have a sticker auto relic then a on-card auto with no relic.

Contenders is just like SPA except better, in my opinion. I opened 3 cases. In each case I got 5 auto/patches (SPA yields one or two per case, max). I also got 2 multi auto booklet cards in each case (no 3+ auto cards are even case hits in SPA)
So if we are gonna say this product is overpriced, better get ready for much, much worse when SPA rolls around

Okay, that was by case. But individual box wise, it seems horrible.
I mean 2 cheap rookies, and a glencross NHL INK.
Wow Great box. *sarcasm*
