    2012 Topps UFC Knockout

    2012 Topps UFC Knockout

    Per Box Items:
6 mini boxes per master box
    5 cards per mini box
    1 parallel per mini box
1 Auto, Relic or Auto Relic per min box

    Topps Sell Sheet

The base set cards are thicker than standard sized cards. The card fronts are border-less and feature a color action shot of the fighter. The picture of the fighter is glossy while the background is in a matte finish. The cards list the circuit the fighter is from (UFC, Strikeforce) in the top corner and the fighter's name centered along the bottom in while lettering. The card backs are photo-less and are horizontal in layout. The backs detail moderate biographical information and career highlights over a white field.

    What I pulled:
    38 unique cards, no duplicates
22 base set cards, 22/100 = 22% of the base set
    8 serial numbered parallel cards
8 serial numbered relic, autograph, or auto/relic cards

    Base card front and back:

    The Parallels: (not all scanned)
    Kongo #/88
    Okami, Mir, Faber #/125
    Akiyama, Griffin, Rua, Nunes #/188

    The Hits:
    Evans relic #/288
    Ebersole auto #/159
    Cruz auto/relic #/200
    Carwin auto/relic #/200
    Ferguson relic #/288
    Cormier auto #/159
    Johnson relic #/88
The Ultimate Fighter relic booklet #/18

    ************************************************** *******

The first thing I noticed with 2012 Topps UFC Knockout was the contrast between the glossy fighters and the matte finish backgrounds. This really make the fighters "pop" on the cards. There is great photography and so cool "in-fight' action shots. This really makes every card unique and none really ever look like the same style. Then there are the hits! They all have good design and layout, strong themes and look great! I have never pulled a booklet card before, and what booklet card I pulled! I really like that The Ultimate Fighter Winners theme. I do not like when relics or autos are just thrown together with no real reason or connection. The only cons would be that some of the cards came out of the mini-boxes a little dinged, especially the hits. The booklet was easy to identify as the mini-box and the inner cellophane packaging was thicker and heavier then the others. This makes it easy to spot for pack searchers.

    The Bottom Line:
I give 2012 Topps UFC Knockout a buy rating. It will be moderately easy to complete the base set with a couple of boxes and some trading. It will be a little more of a challenge to chase the parallel sets. The hits are AMAZING!

    The Final Score:
    Final Ratings (Out of 5):
    Base set collect-ability: 2/5
    Big-hit Hunter: 5/5
    Prospector Hunter:NA
    Overall Design: 5/5
    Fun: 5/5
    Value: 5/5
    Re-buy: 5/5
    Overall Quality: 5/5

    Overall: 32/35 (91% = A)

Topps sent me this box to review for Full Spectrum Baseball. As always I am offering base and insert cards to members here for a SASE.

Thanks to Topps for making this review possible!
