Grading?
Hey guys, I have never in my life had a card graded. So I was wondering what do they look for when they grade cards, and how do I know when I will get good grades, and bad grades?
Also how much is it to get multiple cards graded (around 5-6?)
I decided to start a PC RC collection. And have a couple of nice cards incoming of Brady/Mannings and such

SCF holds BGS Grading Submissions every few months. Check this link out. This current submission is over but they will hold one in like a couple months.

My main question about this is, since i have never done it i dont know when its good to send them in.
So how do I decide if I think itll get a 9.5 or so? have a few im looking at sending

Unless it is a high end card that will benifit from being graded, I don't send them in, and from looking at the card if it looks to be a 9.0 or lower with the naked eye, I wouldn't submit it, because it will most likely grade lower. The cost is usually around $7-9/card for a 20-day turn around, the price goes up if you want it faster, and the prioce goes down if you want to wait 45 days.

Thanks, but since i havent had one, i dont know what to look at to see if it is 9 or higher or so

to the naked eye there border around the card should be the same on all sides, there should be no dings or dents on the edges, there should be no scratches/creases on the card, the corners should be sharp with no dings.

I know at least PSA also looks at original gloss on the card, color fading (or whites turning dingy), and even the overall appeal of the photo itself.
From what I understand, the 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson (there are only 10 Gem Mint of this card out of almost 12,000 graded), has issues with the image itself not being of good quality. Sharpness, etc. Never thought they'd look at that aspect of the card.
