help with Gretzky
Can anyone enlighten me on what I have here. I found these in a box and I have no clue about anything hockey. The "Gold Set" card I actually have the complete set of 30 if that helps.

The Gold Set card is from a mid-90s redemption program called "You Crash The Game". Basically, there was a 30 player set, each player had 3 cards. All dated with a game they were to play. Regular cards were silver, and there were harder to pull gold versions. If the player on your card scored a goal on the date pictured, your card was redeemable for a set. If the card was a gold card, you got the gold set. (plus you got a bonus card of just the player who scored).
No idea how rare these were.... but if memory servers, I traded in for 2 gold sets and a 6 silvers at the time. I don't think anything too special, but someone else could correct me?
The lower right hand corner is a mid-90s insert. Probably worth about $5.
The others all look to be early 80s Topps. The Scoring & Assits leaders (IMO) are the gems of the lot. If you scratch of the black stripe, the player names are hidden underneath. Finding them unscratched isn't THAT uncommon, but much harder to find than the scratched versions. The assits leader looks in really nice condition, not sure about that pink blotch on the other?? (Maybe its on the top loader??)
Yellow background card is a scoring leader from 82-83 OPC. The All Star card (I think??) is from 83-84, and the one in the bottom left is from 81-82 (3rd year card of Gretzky).
Nothing that's going to make you rich, but some really nice vintage stuff.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the pink splotch IS on the card. I found one more if you dont mind. All I know about this guy is he coaches for the Kings. Again, unfortunately the black mark is on the card. The auto is in Blue ball point pen.

Ha! You came to the right place for an answer on that one :)
That's Bill Ranford's Rookie Card, from 87-88 Topps. The card on its own usually sells for a buck or two.
Ranford played for Boston, Edmonton, Boston again, Washington, Tampa, Detroit, and a final stop in Edmonton.... won a couple of Stanley Cups with the Oilers (was playoff MVP in 1990), played in 1 All Star game, won a World Championship as goalie for Team Canada (that's the 1 paragraph version anyway).
My favorite player of all time, but not one whose autographs sell for very much.
The signature on your card looks real to me... but having seen many similar cards go through eBay, I would suggest it's probably only worth a couple of dollars.

Thanks. At least I know what I have now. If I come across any more I know where to ask!

The Gretzky Gold Set are not rare. They are a "You Crash The Game" Prize and the value is $4.00.

The Gretzky Record Collection in the lower right was part of a cross-set insert that UD put out. There were 20 cards in the set (24 if you count the header cards) and they were inserted into: Collector's Choice, UD Series 1, UD Series 2 and, SP.

The Collector's Choice cards were the easiest to obtain and the SP are the toughest and carry a $$ premium. Here is a list of recently offered cards on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=gretzky+record+collection&LH_ Complete=1&rt=ncLast edited by Drewk86a; 05-24-2012 at 08:45 PM.
