what would average BCCG 10 = BGS or PSA

im new to the whole grading thing, so bear with me... it seems as though the bccg on ebay is considerably cheaper than say PSA, GAI or BGS... if the cards are exact same card, both 10s.... but not same price... there seem to be only 2 reasonable explanations for this...

1. bccg doesnt grade as strict, and a '10' in bccg is like a '?' in BGS, etc
2. psa/bgs is just popular choice, so like anything name sells


i personally dont care WHOs name is on my cards, i just want a perfect 10 card...

so my question is this... what is a bccg 10 card equivilant to in other brands?

BCCG is junk. Stay away if possible. There could be a card that's BCCG 10 that would grade a 7 on BGS or PSA. There may be some that would grade BGS 9.5 or PSA 10 but there's also alot of cards with chipping and messed up corners that get BCCG 10 anyway.

I would only go with BGS, GAI, PSA or SCG... nothing else.

PSA is the mostly popular grading service. This is not to say that they grade the best but they do well overall. If you want to sell a card you want it graded by PSA. So, yea. Basicly if you are getting something graded that's post 1950 send it to PSA. Pre-50s stuff SGC is the way to go, they're just more knowledgable with the vintage cards.

Note: Ive heard GAI is ok, never delt with them though. Anything other than PSA and SGC is pretty shady to me... bccg is HORRIBLE, they grade trimmed cards, bad corners 10s... It really depends ont he card but one card that's a bccg 10 could be as low as a PSA 5 or 6. PRO is the second worst grading service.

well i have already ordered a couple 10 bccg cards and should be here next week, ill take a look at them i guess, hopefully they are nice...

ill be honest, i cant afford to build up my collection in in psa, etc in all 10s... that be TONS of cash... so i was thinking the bccg because their cheaper, but at same time... i dont want to get crappy cards either....

so if i were to stick with bgs, psa, etc what would be the lowest id want to go... stick with 9,9.5 and 10s be okay??? is a '9' card in bgs,psa a nice card??

To the naked eye a PSA 9 looks mint. You have to look extremaly close to find that its not. If you want to collect nice cards but don't have enough cash for PSA i'd suggest collecting raw/ungraded stuff... Just due to the fact that buying bccg slabbed cards isen't an investment. What I mean to say is that in 10 years your card may be worth 50 dollars more but you could sell it for the same price if you busted it out of its holder.

i do not plan on buying up a bunch of cards and in 5 years selling them for a profit. Im wanting to do it for 2 reasons.

1. just for a hobby, i love sports and used to love collecting cards... give me something to do

2. i have a 5 year old son, one day when he is older, married, etc id like to hand them down to him... what he doesnt with them from that point is out of my hands, id like for him to keep them... but if something came up and he sold them, id like them to be worth smoething ya know??


i thought about getting ungraded cards, i could afford more.... but on ebay, internet a scanned picture is really hard to tell... i dont want to pay $ for a card and get it and it look like crap.... as i mentioned before, i personally dont care who's name is on it, i just want the card to be perfect condition....

In vintage there's VERY NICE cards with Great eye-appeal in PSA 5-6 so don't let the grade determine if you look.

Modern, say 1977 & newer Psa 7-8 would be the lowest.

True about the fuzzy pictures and worrying about it looking like crap but that's the way I feel about bccg. I buy one of their graded cards and i'm scared that'l it'l be a trimmed, reprint with bad corners.
