Picks for UFC on FX3
Well ladies and gentlemen, fight night is here. Curious about everyone's picks. I'll get it started.
Jorgensen vs. Wineland - Well, looks like Wineland will be fighting for his job tonight. He's lost his last two fights, and hasn't been in the cage since Joseph Benavidez beat him in August. Jorgensen, on the other hand, has one two of his last three fight, with the lone defeat coming from prospect Renan Barao in February. I think Jorgensen's pressure, combined with Wineland's lack of competition, will give the win to Young Guns - Jorgensen, TKO, Round 2
Neer vs. Pyle - Who cares? Well, really? Yes. These two welterweights have actually been putting marks in the win columns as of late. Are they contenders? No. But decent gatekeepers. Neer has won 8 of his last 9 fights, although many have not been against the top competition the UFC has to offer. His lone loss in the streak came against Bellator Fighting Championship notable Eddie Alvarez. Neer's last win came in January when he choked out Duane "Bang" Ludwig in the first round. Pyle has won five of his last seven fights - all in the UFC. His losses came to Jake Ellenberger at UFC 108 and against Rory McDonald at UFC 133. Pyle's last victory came against Ricardo Funch via a deadly knee/punch combination in the first round at UFC 142 in January. Both guys want to storm up the WW ladder, and both will bring it tonight. I look for a standup war that eventually leads to a Dentist victory - Neer, submission, choke, Round 3.
Brenneman vs. Silva - I'd love to say my local boy, Charlie, will win this fight; however, it's not going to happen. Silva is on a streak of sorts, although he was tagged for a loss due to illegal punches (back of the head) against Carlo Prater in January, and in a February 2010, received a no-contest ruling after delivering an illegal punch to a downed opponent at Jungle Fight 17. He has won 9 of his last 11 fights, including a 40 second knockout of Luis Ramos at UFC 134 in Brazil. If Silva can keep the game clean, he should have no problem stuffing the repeated takedown attempts we'll see from Brenneman. Silva was the Jungle Fight welterweight champion and has trained with the likes of Anderson Silva and the Nogueira brothers. He's the real deal if he can stick to the rules. He's gonna knock poor Charlie out - Silva, KO (punch), Round 1
Johnson vs. McCall - After the last fight, this one is a coin flip for me. But, how can you not root for a guy with the nickname "Uncle Creepy?" That's just awesome. Johnson is coming in with a little less momentum than McCall. Remember, Johnson had that loss to Cruz the fight before the fight with Creepy. McCall on the other hand, put four wins together leading up to his draw with Mighty Mouse - albeit those victories came in regional California promotions. Regardless, the fight should be another barnstormer, as will the fight after with the winner against Benavidez. Really stoked for this fight tonight, but still can't pick a clear winner. Gonna call Creepy on this one, just because of his nickname - McCall, decision
Guess there are a few prelims to - Facebook and Fuel TV - Here's who I have winning:
Mike Pierce vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha - Rocha
Seth Baczynski vs. Lance Benoist - Baczynski
Leonard Garcia vs. Matt Grice - Grice
Dustin Pague vs. Jared Papazian - Papazian
Tim Means vs. Justin Salas - Means
Caio Magalhaes vs. Buddy Roberts - Roberts (again because of the name)
Bernardo Magalhaes vs. Henry Martinez - Martinez
Jake Hecht vs. Sean Pierson - Pierson
