Black Widow Spiders
I have begun my annual World War 3 against black widows. I live in the desert of southwest california and these things are all over my patio. Hadn't seen one all year until i found 7 tonight.
Any tips on keeping these things away? I am going to clear ALL dead leaves and such off the patio and try to keep it clutter free. I blasted the entire patio and all cracks and the entire foundation of the area with some good bug killer.
Any ideas? Would hate to get them inside the house/or giving me and my lady any bites.

Hey man!
Found this on another site
"Are they clearing lots or developing nearby land for houses? When we moved into our home 11 years ago, we backed up to a field. Never had a problem. As soon as they started bulldozing that field for new houses, we were overrun with black widows. I can still look at a web and tell you instantly if it was spun by a widow. Nasty little things.
Keep the garage clear, if possible, to eliminate the kinds of hidey holes they like. Avoid them. The female is the dangerous one, and she's usually pretty shy. Just don't blunder into her web. You'll know the webs because they look really random, with lines that stretch here and there from some box or pot, or log to the ground.

hope that helps bud!
Those tiny creatures are the worst. im happy we dont have that kind of animals in sweden. worst thing that can happen to you here is if you get attacked by a bear :) and that is NOT likely.

Wow thats so interesting about them coming after clearing a field! I can't imagine seeing dozens of them or more!
Hopefully my toxic nuke sent them packing. I am the same way, I can recognize that web instantly.

A propane tank slightly cracked open and a lighter should do the trick.
