NHL Draft: Stock dropping for five players
By Mackenzie Liddell, Sportsnet Staff
Much can change over the course of a season for NHL prospects in their draft year.
Whether it’s injuries, poor production, failed expectations or stagnant development, there are a number of reasons why some of the hottest prospects coming into the season fall off the map come draft day.
With the help of hockeyprospect.com’s Mark Edwards, here are five players whose stock has dropped heading into the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh, June 22-23.

Ouch for Grigorenko. He even said he wanted to be the #1 and the others like Yakupov said it didn't matter what team and if he was #1 or #5.

Not surprised that Grigorenko is on that list. He has taken a ton of heat in recent weeks. People forget, though, that while he was supposedly dogging it in the playoffs, we didn't learn until after the Remparts were eliminated that he had mono and was playing through it. I am more hopeful that the Habs take Alex Galchenyuk now, but I would not at all be upset if they took Grigorenko.
As for Marty Frk, he came back from his concussion and played very very well. I think that he'll end up going late first round, but if he falls into round two, well, I hope that Trevor Timmins takes the plunge on him. Along with MacKinnon, Critchlow, and Drouin, Frk was part of a fantastic Mooseheads team this year.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

What was the injury that only allow Alex Galchenyuk to play 2 regular season games this past season with 0 points? I know he had a great statistical year in 2010/11 and I know most Leafs fans want him but I'm concerned about the lingering affects of such a serious injury. Aren't people concerned that it could have set back his development?

Couturier suffered from mono and slipped to 8th to us. I don't think Grigorenko will fall that low personally.
I see Frk going late in the first round, if he does fall in the second round, someone is going to have a steal.

I think that the Habs are going to take either Grigorenko or Galchenyuk myself - one will definitely be available, perhaps both. I'm still of a mind that the Oilers are going to seriously entertain trade offers for the #1 pick. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to add Yakupov to the team but they're going to have some serious cap issues in a couple years when they have to pay Hall, Eberle, RNH the big bucks. At some point they need to address the back end of the ice, and this could be their chance to do so.

i think the Oilers would be stupid not to trade their 1st to Columbus and get something out of it, then go with Murray at 2nd. like Rich said, eventually they need to develop their defense, it wont matter if they have Hall, Nuge, Eberle, Yakupov if they don't have a decent defense. especially if Nash leaves Columbus, Columbus will be looking for a dynamic scorer to replace him which Yakupov might turn out to be, so i'd imagine they'd be very interested in trying to make a deal.

I think Frk has to be the hit or miss player of this year's draft, similar to Tomas Jurco last year. Both are blessed with immense talent, but can be head cases and choose to take nights off as well. It will be interesting to see how far Frk falls due to that reputation that has followed him all year.
