    Michael Jordan dilemma

Hey guys. I'm new here, because at 35, I'm getting back into collecting. I mostly do baseball cards, but here's a basketball card question.

I am lucky enough to have a 1986 Fleer Jordan. I opened it in a wax pack, myself, in 1986. I always kept it pretty safe, and somewhere in the 90's, I put it in a nice screwdown case and put it in a lock box in my closet.

Now, it's in no way a 10. If I HAD to guess, it's between a 6 and an 8. It's not perfectly centered. Despite the really nice corners the sides have very slight flairing in some spots. And there's a very slight ding in the surface.

I know I could get it graded, but here's my dilemma: a friend I work with is a monster Jordan fan. He collects shoes, and wants to start collecting the cards. He's offered $550, which would be pennies if it were a 9 or 10. But I know it's not. Keep in mind, the only sentimental value the card has for me, is that I can't believe I'm lucky enough to have such a valuable card. I'm not a big basketball card collector.

My question is, is this a good deal? Should I get it graded, and risk it being graded lower? He's lucky in the fact that I know for a fact that it's authentic, but should I hold on to it?

    Thanks in advance, everyone!

thats a dilemma for sure.. I would grade it, and hope for the best! but 550 is still good, there's alot of doubts when selling a jordan rookie. the safest way for you and for your friend if you wanna sell it later on, is to get it graded.

If you don't get it graded your friend should.

Keep it if you don't need the money and can't afford to buy another one somewhere down the track.

I don't have a scan, sorry. If I would've checked the forum before heading to work I could scan it.

I do kinda need the money, and the thing is, I probably wouldn't buy one down the road. I've always been a baseball card collector, and the fact that I have basketball cards is kinda dumb luck. I got a few packs for attending vacation bible school with a friend (the visitor got 2 packs and the kid who brought a visitor got 1). I liked getting them, so I bought maybe 30 packs. (I also have the Akeem Olajuwon from that year) And for some reason, I bought a ton of 1990 Fleer basketball. Other than that, I collected baseball from 86 to 91. And started back up this year. (god help us all)

I'll scan it tonight. I just want to make sure I couldn't get 800 or 900 just as easily. Which part of the ease of selling it to my friend is that I don't have to list it, worry about getting a scam payment, etc.

$550 is a pretty good deal. I was lucky enough to buy my MJ RC PSA 8 for right over $600 last year. I'd take the cash

get that card graded for sure..just tell him you want to make 100% sure its authentic before you sell it..using that as an excuse as a way of him thinking your looking out for him when in all actuality thats buying you time to get the grade info you want..lol..scandelous but its a dog eat dog world lol
