1966-1967 Topps Booby Orr Rookie...opinions needed please!!
I am hoping for some opinions/direction regarding a 1966-1967 Topps Bobby Orr RC...my question is how much would you pay for a Graded KSA 4 VGE card?
I think I have a good idea but there is not a ton of history on these cards and would like some opinions to mull over.
Thanks in advance!!

Actually, there is quite a bit of history for Orr RC's. I've been wanting his RC for quite sometime and I've periodically checked out sales for this card.
Not surprisingly, the market/history of sales is erratic. While the sale prices tend to be consistently high (as they should be), what's been inconsistent is what a particular grade will sell for. Due to the age of the card, there are many available w/sub 5 grades. I've seen 5's sell for less than 3's and 2's sell for more than 4's, etc... Just goes to show how the market is and when a listing ends. I always search for auctions that end at odd times (early morning, odd weekdays, etc..)
With that said, I'd expect to pay $1500 - $2000 for a 4 grade. Of course, I'm a big fan of Orr so my estimate is probably high.
Good luck obtaining the card. Would love to see a scan if you get it!

Thanks much Kevin...I think you stated it better when you said the history is erratic rather than scarce. I was am also not sure if I should look to discount the card as it is graded by KSA and not PSA or Beckett. I am not too familiar with KSA but understand they are not as highly regarded as the other grading services.
Either way thanks again for the feedback and I get the card I will post an image.

KSA do an awesome job with grading. They are usually right on par with the 2 other companies, if not more stringent.
For your question on value of a KSA 4 ORR. I saw a dealer sell a KSA 4 at the Expo for $1000 cash. I have also seen them sell on ebay for $1250-1400. But who knows if those ebay items were shilled, or anything.
I'd say if you find one, offer what you are comfortable paying, if the seller doesn't like your offer you will find another one.

I'm not trying to pick a fight or start an argument by asking this, but is that opinion or fact? If you search the board (here and several others), you can find evidence of KSA cards getting up to 2 grades lower on cross-over to PSA and several instances of PSA not grading them and instead sending the cards back as 'altered' (I've seen very few equivalent grade cross-overs). This is usually on higher grade cards and most of that information is probably almost 2 years old by now, so its entirely possible KSA could have upped their game which I would be happy to hear. But without someone having crossed over some actual cards which were recently graded, I don't know that my opinion would be so easily moved.
That's not to say you can't find value with KSA graded cards. eBay completed sales currently show that a PSA 1 Orr RC sold for $750 while a KSA 2 went for under $700 and a KSA 4 went just under $1000. PSA has long been the 'standard' for vintage, graded cards on the secondary market. If you find a KSA that meets your budget and condition needs, I say go for what makes you happy!

Thanks for the opinion Fred...I was glad to hear SJW's opinion but also realize that KSA has had some questions in the past. I did purchase the card for what I was comfortable with based on the fact that it looked pretty close to a 4 in the scan with only some soft corner the chipping that is so prevalent with that series of cards. I won't ever be able to get myself to purchase a high grade Orr Rookie so as long as this card looks the same in person as the scan I am good with it.
Thanks again.
