The autographed card and the COA are two separate cards. The COA was not graded, but I have to assume it was submitted with the auto'd card as "proof" that it belonged to the 04/05 SP Authentic Buyback set.
If Upper Deck simply forgot to include Gretzky in their online checklist, that's fine. But it all comes back to the missing name on the COA, and the fact that it looks like and eraser was taken to it................
BAH!!!! I just shoulda kept my mouth shut the first time and kept the card. If it fooled the fine people at BGS.....................

Don't they put the COA on the back of the card now, I was not in the hobby in 2005 I cam back in 2007 after a long break in collecting. So to me this look more like a real in person auto but was it issued in the 04/05 SP Authentic Buyback set, I would not buy that due the the COA with no name on it and not listed. Simple as that. To me it just look like a real in person auto.

I know, I pulled a gretzky/lemieux dual auto dual patch /5 last year as a redemption and got it this srping. But I could not resit a good offer so I only had it for like 2 months. Still it was a great card to hold in your hand. But I bought many Carey Price with the money

I thought buyback autos came with a separate COA, since you couldn't stick it on the back of an existing card that the bought back from this parties. Same idea as with dual sided gu or auto cards.

I've dealt with alot of Gretzky in person autos and TTMs. That autograph is 100% legit, as far as the COA, that may be somewhat fishy. And while I cant see from the scan, Id ask to see the certification number which should appear on an hologram on both the card and COA. With that said, for a reasonable price, Id still buy that card
Edit. One thing I'm skeptical about now, The seller does have a bunch of Gretzky cards up and that's a plus BUT...
The scan for this card and 'matching' COA are considerably smaller and harder to see than the other cards he has up for auction which are larger and more legible, make me wonder if he's hiding something with the smaller scan for this one particular cardLast edited by Boofish; 07-11-2012 at 12:11 PM.

I got NOTHING against the seller, I've bought other stuff from him before. Like I said, when I thought the card was fishy the first time around he refunded my money within 20 minutes of my first email and then trusted me to return the card. He's a good guy.
After I returned the card he told me he was gonna get it checked out, which he did. Just not how I thought. Which is why I need to know if Upper Deck has records of their COA serial numbers..........

If I recall correctly, some of the buybacks had the players name at the top and others simply didn't. Also I imagine it is pretty hard to erase print off of a card, especially without any visible marks (at least to my eyes).

I've never seen a 04/05 SP Authentic COA without a name on it myself, but maybe you're right? On THIS one however, the gloss was missing along with the name.......... :(

I once bought a Gordie Howe 1/1 buyback off ebay. I wanted to check the serial numbers with Upper Deck without telling them the card, for 2 reasons, 1. to check the authenticity of the 1/1 (it was just hand numbered) and 2. to see if they actually had a database of all serial numbers to know what numbers went with which cards, they would not tell me the authenticity of the card without me first telling them what the card was and sending them a scan.
