New PC - Too Daunting a Task?
I decided to start a new PC and have chosen Ilya Kovalchuk. I have always been a Kovy fan and he does seem to appear quite frequently in my box/pack breaks. So, that's who I decided to pick. However, after looking at his list in the SCF Inventory it seems I have bitten off more than I can chew:
Ilya Kovalchuk - 3,048 total cards
Memorabilia Cards - 1,390 (46%)
Serial #'d Cards - 2,150 (71%)
Cards#'d to less than 100 - 1,978 (65%)
Cards#'d to less than 50 - 1,679 (55%)
Cards#'d to less than 25 - 1,422 (47%)
Cards#'d to less than 10 - 582 (19%)
Cards#'d to 1/1 - 456 (15%)
Then you have to consider the cards which feature other stars: Crosby (18), Malkin (99), Ovechkin (188) because there will be a premium price for those as well as competition from collector's of those players.
I know I will never finish this PC, but I am going to see how far I can get. No telling how long it will take, but it should be a fun ride!Hidden Content

This is where bulk venues like sportlots and such come in so very helpful. You can get a ton of cards for dirt cheap from the sellers. While it may be the base/inserts/common memorabilia cards, if you can get yourself 100 cards for $18.00 (many sellers sell base for .18, some even less) plus shipping, that's a good chunk right off the bat.
Good luck and have fun!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

If it weren't a challenge, it wouldn't be worth it!
Good luck with it and enjoy yourself!

I think it's fun and a chalange to collect prime player. But do not put your expectation too high. Your percentage will go up and then you tend to hit a wall when you got most of the base and insert so at some point, only big amount of manoey can make the percentage keep going up. Like I pretty much stick at 20 % lalty with carey price. I would have to invest a lot of money to get the percentage go higher. But don't even thing of getting close to 100%. For instence, I receive all application fro supercollector in my mail box and most are player with less then 1000 cards. and if you look at the list of supercollector, you will almost see no big name because it too costly to get a percentage ask for that one program. so imagine getting close to 100%, you would need to invest a lot of money every years and a lot to start.
But it fun because you have pllenty fo cards from prime player so you never end up with no cards to chase. For instance most cards under /25 print run, I don;t really chase them unless it's a good price and the card is sick or I try to make a rainbow. But other then this, I pass on them because they cost too much.

A tough task indeed. All points made above me are %100 true and valid. It all depends on your expectations of what you would feel comfortable with percentage wise. I am quite sure that you have an idea as to how you would like your PC to look (since each collector as unique goals). For me I have taken the task of collecting all Kovalchuk Rookie Year auto's and while most are easily obtainable, i will be waiting mannnnyyyyy years for the following to pop up
01/02 Premier Signatures Black Auto /5
01/02 BAP Jersey Auto /10
01/02 SPA FWA /25 (A raw copy sold for 247.50 and a BGS 9 copy sold for 360)
01/02 SPA SOTT Triple with Bure=Kovalev /25
01/02 Bowman Auto Puck Redemption (no idea what even looks like)
If your passion is true and your patience is strong, any challenge is worth it.
I wish you the best of luck and would love to see the progression of your pc in the later times to come
