JS Giguere RC Question
The SCF Inventory lists 96-97 UD Ice as J.S. Giguers's only true RC.
I've got a 94-95 Parkhurst SE card of Giguere. Parkhurst SE was released as a stand-alone set. It was not an insert or subset. Wouldn't the Parkhurst SE be his RC?Hidden Content

That SE set was somehow intended just for European release though it was available in North America as well. I guess that's why those cards didn't earn true RC status.

There's a few others in that set in the same boat. Danny Breire & Jarome Iginla (I believe). They were always given the XRC tag, for the exact reason MOGO89 said. The set was intended for Europe, despite being readily available in North America. Very similar to the Paul Karyia or Roman Hamrlik in the 91-92 UD Czech World Juniors.

The difference is that the Kariya Czech does not have an XRC tag, It simply says RC unless Beckett changed it.
The UD Czech Kariya RC along with being a nicer card is a bit more scarce.
In regard to Jiggy. The Parkhurst SE is treated by any collectors I know as his true Rookie, XRC status aside.

It's been a long time since I read an publications..... but when did Beckett put the RC tag beside that Karyia?? For many, many years - they had XRC beside that one, and his only listed 'RC' was from 92-93 Upper Deck (same set as Pronger or Daigle)

With Beckett, it used to be how relatively widespread of a release card got. So, Brett Hull's 1987-88 Calgary Flames card, issued by Red Rooster stores, does not count as his rookie card. Even though it is his first card showing him as an NHL player, it was not widely distributed.
Likewise, Bill Guerin's "rookie card" in the 1991-92 Parkhurst Final Update set got an XRC status because not many people knew about the set, which you had to mail away for.
Beckett Hockey seemed to change its mind with the 2005-06 McDonald's card of Sidney Crosby, as they "counted" it as one of his rookie cards, claiming that being sold in McDonald's counts as widespread distribution. Never mind the fact that it wasn't sold in the U.S., or even Pittsburgh.
