Question about PSA Grading - Newer Cards

why are there so few graded newer cards? Is the fad dying off, are people just not concerned with the condition anymore? I think I would have a hard time shelling out hundreds of dollars for a single card when u get a small 3" zoomed out picture of the card. 99% of the time u can barley see the corners in the cards... That was one of my main reasons for collecting graded cards was because if I order over net, i know what im getting...

iv been trying to collect up older late 80s rookies but recently been looking at newer cards... Found a few I wanna get but they are not graded and cant even find any past auctions either...

so does PSA not grade newer cards or something or people just not gotten around to sending them in yet or what?

I think there are a variety of reasons you are not seeing a lot of newer graded cards.

- Grading is more important for vintage cards, where wear & tear are more prevalent.
- Yes, some of the "trendiness" of grading has worn off.
- A lot of the newer cards aren't worth enough (yet) to make you spend $10 on grading it yet.
- A lot of the higher end card lines (e.g. Topps Chrome, etc) pretty much crank out good quality cards in good shape. So you can buy ungraded cards with a reasonable amount of trust that it'll be in good shape.

i bought a beckett today and am going through year by year and choosing the set that I would like to collect.

For example, 2005 I decided on Finest. They offer a rookie card with an autograph and only numbered to 299. Not bad for the price. I would like to collect the "best" card like SPx or whatever each year, but I cant seem paying $500+ for a guy who might not even be in NFL in next few years. For example Couch, Leaf, etc guys im sure plenty of you lost your butts on.

Id rather choose a set that tops out around $150 for a stud. Then has potential to go up later on.

Like you said Id like to stick to the numbered or auto'd sets with true rookie cards. I plan to still collect PSA graded for all my older cards (pre 90s) and then choose a card that "CAN" be graded..

so my question is simple... what cards can PSA not grade? They can grade any of the auto cards right? just not any of the jersey patch cards... am I correct?

ok, choosing my set for 2004 and came across the UD Sweet Spot set. It numbered, auto, etc and nice price range. The Eli/Big Ben are going for under $150....

can this card be sent to PSA to be graded? im not sure what can and cant be. I dont understand why they dont just offer different cases, etc for different cards

I am not aware of any limitations on what can be graded by PSA. For example, here is a GU/AUTO rc graded by PSA.

I think there are some cards that PSA/BGS/SGC won`t grade due to their thickness. I do know BGS grades cards as well as the autograph now.
