Removing Cards from Slabs?
I just received a BGS-slabbed patch card that I'd like to remove from the slab. Obviously I'd like to achieve this without damaging the card. I looked on youtube and found a video of some guy showing how to remove a PSA-slabbed card, but since mine is BGS and because it's a patch card, it's rather thick (maybe just over 2x the thickness of a regular PSA slab) and I don't know that the same technique will work for mine.
Do any of you have experience with this kind of thing? Any suggestions?
Btw, I should mention I don't have a ton of advanced tools...just the basics (hammer, screwdrivers, razor knife, pliers)
Thanks.

Thanks Deckard. For some reason it doesn't show up in your post above, but the notification email I received that said I had a reply to this thread had a totally different youtube clip attached at the bottom, and the guy in that video had a real solid and less chaotic way of breaking the slab than this guy above. I went ahead and tried it and it worked like a charm.
In case anyone wants to see that one, here it is:
Anyway, thanks again!

Actually what I did was try to post two videos, and the SCF forum software wouldn't let me, so I posted a first one that showed how to get into a BVG case by mistake (the one you posted above). Then I changed it to the BGS one. You must have gotten the notice before I made that change.
In any case, glad you found a solution!

Why would you want to remove it?

If it was a BGS 10 Mike Trout auto RC, I probably wouldn't have. But this was a 9.5 Masterpieces patch auto and quite frankly, I really don't care about the grade. It's such a beautiful set that I could care less if the card has a slight ding on the corner or a mark on the back...it doesn't make the card any less valuable to me.
What DOES make the card less valuable to me is if I can't display it with the rest of the Masterpiece patches in my collection. There's something about opening the box, seeing them all lined up in order, sandwiched in brand new shiny 180pt toploaders, safely tucked away in team bags. I created a special display box specifically designed to fit the Masterpieces patch cards, and if I kept this new patch in its slab it wouldn't fit in the box with my other 69 patches. I guess it's just my preference to see them all together in uniformity.
I understand that most people would prefer to leave a BGS 9.5 in its case for investment purposes, but consider this...I have doubles of that particular card, and the other one was not graded. I bought them both for the exact same price, and so in my estimation, the 9.5 grade meant absolutely nothing to that card from an investment standpoint. However, if I was seeing BGS 9.5 Masterpieces patch autos selling for 2 or 3 times more than their ungraded counterparts, then I would not have considered removing it from the case.

Interesting. I never thought there was a way to get those cases open.
