What do I do with my base cards?
Just wondering what everyone here does with there excess base cards? I've tried loading 4 or 5 into a penny sleeve and using them to protect cards I'm mailing (instead of cardboard inserts) I've tried giving them away to other members or relatives/friends, and I've seriously considered using them as fire starter, but I just can't get rid of the growing pile of base cards cluttering my shelves. I was in my lcs recently and one of the guys working there was going through a stack just tearing them and throwing them out, which seems like a waste. What do you guys do with em?

When I was in the moving process I had two big boxes of cards that were sitting in the closet collecting dust. I took them downstairs in my building and put "free cards" on them and they were gone within an hour. So now they're someone else's problem.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I make sets with them and sell them as I can. It keeps me active on eBay at the very least. I've got a need list where I'd be happy to trade for any you don't want:

Its a good way for those who have too many to turn those base into inserts, or, GU if they have a few that I need.
Cheers,

I used to give them to the local hospitals for the Childrens ward but they stopped taking them as they had to many. Now we just give them away at our card shows to kids.

Some of the things I've done before:
1. My laundry room used to have a library where people could drop off and take books, cd's, dvd's, etc. I left the cards there and someone else took them.
2. Took them to my LCS and gave them away for free. Found out that the owner actually gives them away to local school teachers who use them for games, math skills (using players stats on the back), etc. Nice things about this was that the owner ended up giving me a free pack of BTP cards.
3. Like someone mentioned above, I try grouping certain players cards and sell them off on ebay. Quite a bit of work for little profit, but at least someone else will make use of the cards.
I cringe at the thought of throwing out cards.

If you can find someone local who does ttm or is an autograph hound they are usually willing to pay $20/3200 count box. That is how I've been most successful at moving mine.

I have traded base cards for 25 years and probably ended up with $7,000.00 in cash once I traded up.
Now I'm trading cheap inserts for base and allowing another 1/3 loss to whomever is trading me inserts/parallels, depending on which player's base cards I'm trading away.
People always need base cards, Keep all the base of the top 20 players over 15 years, you will always have a trade market for them.

I do a little bit of each of the following with them:
-Make grab bags and give them to kids at shows
-When I open a box in the LCS let him keep them, his problem now lol
-Use them as Kindling in the fire pit to get it started
-Sometimes build sets when I find a card design I like

Some good ideas in here, I've managed to find a few traders on this site that are looking to complete some base sets. I've pulled all my habs out (except Gomez) since SPA has a nice white background, I'd like to try some ttm autos, and I'll probably use the rest to make a kick ™™™ card house.
