I am guessing you have never drawn welfare and tried to get off of it.

You guess correctly. However, I did grow up in a house that depended on welfare checks for a time. Funny thing, no more welfare checks are going there and haven't for about 25 years now.

The welfare system is designed to keep those who are on it, on it. If you earn $200 at a part time job then they take away $200 in welfare benefits. There is no chance to start getting ahead. You either get a good enough paying job to "quit cold turkey" or you never get off of it. welfare is not designed to facilitate "cold turkey".

Well, like I said, I've seen it go cold turkey. Are you suggesting people should be getting ahead on welfare? That sounds like Democrat talk to me. Welfare is meant to be supplimentary and temporary. If people are under the impression you should be able to actually make money on welfare, maybe it's not the system.
I'll also ask you, who's idea do you think it was to take that $200 away? Was it the "Spend nothing on social programs" Republicans or the "Let's waste money on the poor" Democrats?
And if welfare did get the user ahead, would you not be screaming that it's designed not just to help, but people can actually gain wealth off it?

What's more, the current process of "tax 'em til it hurts" is making it even worse. So what if people who are on welfare get a degree? Now they are highly educated and unemployed. Thanks to a tax system that leeches ever red cent it can out of the business owners and wealthy investors the workforce is overstocked. Who is going to hire a fresh-out-of-college person with a BA/BS when there are people with an MBA and 20 years of experience looking for work and applying for the same jobs?

When conservatives see someone on welfare, they say, "Should have worked harder. Should have gotten an education." Now you're telling me that when they get an education it's worthless? Does that education not give them a better chance at a job? Do you need 100% guarantees that person will get a job? Sounds like socialism to me.

Education does not equal employment. Jobs equals employment. And with 36% of our population unemployed it is hard to imagine how taxing the wealthy and business owners into the ground is going to make it better.

No, but a lack of education leads to a lack of employment more often than education leads to a lack of unemployment. But you didn't think of that did you. Lazy, lazy lazy...(tongue in cheek)

There is no problem. North Carolina passed a law, so we're all safe now.

Are you the null and void judge?

I just like pointing out false correlations. Of course, most people on this site will ignore studies with evidence and just go on "common sense," right?

I don't know about that very last part, but the rest seems pretty close.

If you think success is tied strictly measured in monetary wealth, I can't help you.
If you think everyone who draws from welfar wants to, I can't help you.
If You think helping someone automatically makes you dependent, I can't help you (and you shouldn't want me to).

if you think no one who is on welfare wants to be, I can't help you.
If you don't think helping someone who doesn't need help makes you a dependent then I can't help you.

You say you don't understand me and people like me who continue to vote republican. I currently pay next to zero in taxes after child credit. While I love getting a tax return, if taxes need to go up, i fully expect to pay my fair share. I don't think any tax increase needs to belong to the rich only. If I am benefiting from the "system" why should I not be paying into the system? Why should someone who is wealthy give me anything?
I did not grow up with money. I paid for every penny of college myself and have never taken a hand-out from anyone. I do not thinking helping people is wrong, i have done so numerous times. I think helping people who don't need the help is wrong and creates dependence.

    I think no such thing.

If you don't think helping someone who doesn't need help makes you a dependent then I can't help you.

I said those people need to be weeded out. Welfare is temporary to get you through when you have no earning power. It is not a legitimate "income". I've never said otherwise. But hey, who needs to read.

Well do you have a job? Are you supporting yourself? Do you need help?
If the answers went yes, yes, no, then there's no reason for anyone to give you anything. I'm not saying raise taxes on the rich and I never have. I'm saying close the loopholes, close the shelters, don't allow money to be kept offshore unnecessarily (ie: for tax purposes).

I agree. I'm not talking about helping people who don't need it. The thing is, and I suppose I have to say this again, slashing a program like welfare is actually couterproductive. It's not the leeches who suffer, it's the workers. They get laid off and when they do, there's less people working to catch these leeches. Slash the program and the leeches flourish because the entitlement doesn't drop, the employees do. It's called thinking ahead, but maybe you're just proving the study to be correct.
