Question Ref 97/98 Katch Coins
The Beckett OLG lists 2 varietys for these coins. A regular coin and a Fabrique du Canada coin. The regular set is priced with the Fabrique du Canada marked as n/a.
The Charleton Price Guide (a Cdn publication) makes no mention of the Fabrique du Canada.
I have approx 200 of these coins; a friend has approx 400 or so and every single one of them has this stamped on the back of the coin in the middle ridge: "IrwinTM All Rights Reserved/Tous Droit Reserves Fabrique du Canada" All the other printing on the coin is in a bilingual format.
So my question is has anyone ever seen two different varietys? Or perhaps because the coins are from Canada someone automatically assumed they would come in two different versions.
Any help or comments is definetly appreciated.Collect Crown Royale, OPC & McD

My understanding is that there is a version out there that does NOT say 'Fabric Au Canada' on the back - but everything else will be identical. I'm not sure why the variation would exist (if it was for an American market, where printing that wasn't needed - I would expect that the coin would be English only. My only guess is that where they were made is something that Canadian laws require, and they started printing them without the info, and then realized the error and added it.
I have the bronze, silver, and gold Ranford.... all say 'Fabric Au Canada'. I've never seen another version, but I think a member on HI showed scans one time about these.... so I am reasonably sure that they do exist.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. If the Fabrique du Canada version is the more common version you think they would priced and the plain English version would be n/a.

Yes, there are both versions of all three colors in the 97-98 Katch set. Here's a borrowed picture:

Hello,
I have the set of 6 (the photo Tatu provided is mine).

They are identical except for the additional text already noted.
It took me a long time to track down the "non-Fabrique" versions and I paid a lot more for them.
Hope that helps.
Cheers!

Woops, I was busted. Hope you didn't mind
The last Mogilny I got was the Fabrique version so I can't tell which ones were harder.

I always thought that without that 'fabrique au Canada' text, coin is USA version and with the text, Canada version..
Anyway, still missing Gilmour non-fabrique Gold. I pay pretty penny for that.
