    Lockout

So what's going to happen with the 2012/13 releases if there's a lockout, creating either a partial season or no season at all? OPC and Score will already be out but what about all the other products?

If we lost the whole season do you think that would be put UD out of business, seeing as though they have no other major licences?

Same thing as what happened in 2004-05.

Since they have products like OPC and Score scheduled, they will produce the rookies that already made debuted or they will hold them out for the year after.

    ...

But, I don't think the lockout will last the year. Most likely things will settle by December. The NHL loses way too much revenue if they skip the season.

Depends on what the manufacturers have in their licensing deal.... and if there are any rules regarding a labour stoppage.

You'll see very few rookies (just the holdovers) so I'd expect what you'd get instead are sets centered around retired players, vets, etc.

They are so far apart that is coupd well repeat again with a season canceled. Not so sure the NHL will drop what they want and no matter how strong the NHLPA negociator is. The NHL hold the key to a negociation and if they do not want to negociate the player get no revenu while some team will not loose money and other can still do good since most can make money renting the place.

If there's a lockout again, what I do know is that our friends at ITG will keep things moving. And if that means it would make UD fold, all the more to give ITG a licence! Last thing I'd want is to have a monopoly again.

Another lockout would be very bad for the hobby. There's already a lot of concern about where things are at and if we have a season cut down or lost, the lack of new rookie material would hurt considerably. There's of course always interest in established players but we all know that rookies are what drives the hockey hobby market.

The NHL can't afford a lockout!! The are riding such a high after last years Cup Playoffs that they really need to capitalize off the surge. A lockout would squander the opportunity. I guess that means the league has the players over the barrel.

As far as the hobby goes, I think they will still put out cards, but the rookie driven sets will suffer. I can see Score, Pinnacle, Upper Deck (at least 1 series), OPC, Game Used, Authentic all being produced. They may even shift to a year of "nostalgia" releases like Parkhurst Champions

While I agree it would be bad for the hobby, no question about that, I disagree that it would be bad for the NHL point of view. If they have a majority of team for the stike and with Betman on board, unless player accept their demands, I can see the NHL on strike. The reason I say this is many team are not making money, many are just making enough to make a little profit. Also most own the building and can lease it for profit that it be for show or other event. So if 16 team see it as benificial to stay on strike and player do not adhere to what the NHL ask then you have a strike.

Look at what some team have sign player for, can they all affors to pay them in the future??? This is why I say it more then a possibility that we end up with a long stike when I look at what the NHL is asking player to sign and with the current negociator for the NHLPA, I do not see them accepting this.

I don't want a strike but when I look at who is negociating, what are their demands, I just don't think the season will even start. I sure hope to have hockey and if hockey ticket holder would make the NHL understand it's not acceptable, maybe the NHL would be more realistic. But look what happened after the last strike, the NHL made more money so bettman as all the argument to stick to his plan and we know he care only about the money and not the fans...

It appears on paper that the 57% Revenue that the NHLPA were getting in this last Collective Bargaining Agreement, is being dropped to 43% on presentation from the owners.

This is a 14% drop in personal revenue of all NHLPA related sales per player. There is no way in hell that they will agree to this, especially today after Bobby Orr told them to hold their ground.

Owners now want their 3-4 year chance at the extra 7% revenue that the players got in the last go-round.

The Revenue Sharing should have always been at 50% split. This is the easiest thing in the room to agree on.

50-50 Call it a day, and leave it at 50-50 forever.

Just to clarify something here - there is absolutely no talk of a strike. The players will not strike. If there is no hockey it is because the owners have locked them out - again.
