If someone works and goes to the same church in a non preaching/teaching position and decide to either go to another church or switch religions all together and the church fires them over that do they have a case against the church for employment discrimination based on religion?

Janitor, mechanic, driver, etc

I'd think they would if they can prove that the firing happened solely based on their conversion to another religion.

Well, if they require you to be of a certain religion to be a mechanic, janitor, etc. then that is illegal. Those type of jobs should not be attached to religiuos preference. Now if we are talking about preaching, then they have a reason to fire you since you do not have their same ideals.
