NHL makes 'significant' counter proposal Tuesday
NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League negotiating committee made a "significant" counter proposal Tuesday morning to the National Hockey League Players' Association offer from two weeks ago in the hopes of getting the current Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations moving toward a resolution.
According to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, the proposal Tuesday focused on answering some of the Union's concerns about the core economic issues.
The current CBA is set to expire Sept. 15.

Players on the front foot as usual. I hope they didn't have to bring their Peeler Pole to the meeting and dance too long for the owners..... AGAIN.

I love the League's significant counter proposal. This should have been it's opening proposal, as the initial one was pure insanity.
Owners started.....
From This
* Overall 34.6 % player reduction in total salary over 6 year
* 57% owner revenue share, the previous CBA the players had the 57% share in revenues.
To This
* Overall 25% player reduction in salary - hit taken in 1st 3 years.
* 50/50% Revenue split where it always should have been.
Here's the statement about the salaries.....
The first three years would come in at fixed, pre-negotiated players' share dollar thresholds: 11 per cent, 8.5 per cent and 5.5 per cent less than the 2011-12 totals in the first three years respectively.
This where they are at. Players wanted an increase in total salary. Owners wanted a 34.6 % decrease in salary, plus they wanted the 57% revenue share that the players just enjoyed for the past 5-6 years.
This is what the Owners have proposed.
They have taken the salary objective down 10.6 % to 25% from their original 34.6% from the last CBA.
They have taken the revenue sharing to the players from a 14% change in their favour to a 7% change in their favour for this CBA.
The players will NOT go for this deal, they just won't, as the owners were asking for the moon and the sky on initial proposal.
Tuesday's proposal, should have been the Owners entering proposal, not their counter proposal.
I see the players agreeing with the Revenue Split, but I don't see them still losing 25% salary impetus in the first 3 years of the new deal.Last edited by centrehice; 08-29-2012 at 11:26 AM.
