COMC vs. EBay
Hey all, I've got a quick question for those of you who list cards with Check Out My Cards. I currently list my cards on eBay and have just been getting fed up with the fees. I unfortunately don't list anything too high end (mainly 3-5 dollar low end autos and game used). I've got around 200 listed on there. They sell pretty well, but between the listing fee, final value fee and paypals cut, it's just getting tougher to eek by.
Does anybody know the fee structure over there at COMC and if it would be worth it with a collection my size?

According to my quick calculations it would cost you $43.00 up front to list 200 cards. Assume you sell all of them for $4.00 each (between 3 and 5)you would make $800.00. If you wanted the money COMC would take 20% or 160.00. Your profit would be $597.00. This could go fluctuate depending on which services you choose but its the standard rate.
I'm not sure what your ebay listing fees are but if you sold all your cards for the same amount of money Ebay and PP fees amount to about 13%. Depending on your shipping policy (free shipping vs Buyer pays etc) I'd say you would come out ahead on ebay.
If you decide to use the money made on COMC to purchase cards from the site then they do not take the 20% and whatever you sell the cards for you can spend so if you go that route COMC would net you the best return. If you are looking for the cash I would say stick with ebay.

That's actually a really great analysis, thank you for that. I think ebay is still the way to go.
Also, anybody know what happens if you ever want to get your cards back from COMC? Do you just buy them from yourself? Or does COMC charge to have this done?

There also is a much larger buyer market on Ebay.

Maybe check out SportsBuy as an alternative to Ebay? Same overall structure but fees are better on SB...

From what I understand if you want your cards back from COMC after x amount of days you have to pay shipping charges. Now while the cash out fee of COMC is pretty high at 20% vs eBay/PP fees at about 13% it looks ebay is the sure thing. But just think about this, as I am in a similiar situation.
You don't have to cash out on COMC you can purchase cards to resale on the site. Purchase cards you think will sell well on ebay, this way you pay a little to get them shipped to you, then list on ebay and only pay 13% cash out. This is a little more effort.
With COMC they do all the work. It's about .20 for the 4 week processing time, soon to be .25. But once you pay this upfront then whatever you sell at is yours, minus cash out fee if you choose this option. This is partitaly why the 20% cash out. They scan your cards, list your cards, provide customer service, you don't deal with bad buyers, don't have to package and shipm, all of these are very good in my mind. It may take longer to sell your cards because traffic is no as high as ebay, but if your not in a hurry then who cares. One other thing is you will have more free time due to most of the previously mentioned things, and if your a family man like myself, I rather spend time with my daughter than ebay.
One last thing, it also has alot to do with what your selling, because your doing low to mid you might probably do better on ebay than me. I mostly have base to low end.
