    Gretzky RC Question

Have an opportunity to buy a Topps version but I'm doing research on them - I don't want to post the picture because it's not my picture and don't want to violate any forum rules, etc. But I can tell you that there ISN'T a yellow dot on his shoulder, is that first indication that it's a reprint?

Thanks for pointing me in any direction that can help!

If it doesn't have the dot, stay far away.

When it comes to buying the Gretzky RC, I always recommend people buy a graded/authenticated copy. It's the only way to know 100% for certain.

No problem. Especially when buying online, it's very difficult to tell the real deal from a fake, even if you know what you're looking for. Unless they send you a hi-res scan of the card with the key "tells" blown up, you could conclude very easily that it's authentic only to get the actual card and see you were mistaken.

also if you go look at it compare it to another card from the same set, go purchase a common card for like .50 from to compare the paper that it was print on and thickness of it. Yellow mark is a bad thing. ive owned a couple now. I would never purchase one online unless it was graded or knew the person well enough to trust them.

I've seen a PSA 7 one that didn't have the yellow spot on the shoulder, is the yellow dot the OPC version and without it the Topps version?

Thanks for the input everyone, I've decided not to even bid due to the seller's reaction to me questioning the authenticity of the card - it's actually a disturbing email from them, if you'd like to see it and know who the dealer is, please shoot me a PM.

I don't think the Topps version was faked. Only the OPC. You should be safe.

The Topps Gretzky RCs don't have the yellow dot.

I second the suggestion that when buying a Gretzky RC, whenever possible buy a card that's been graded or authenticated by a reputable company.
