Not sure how to handle eBay situation.

I recently sold a card on eBay. After the auction ended I got an e-mail from the high bidder asking about a smudge on the card. Was it on the card or not? It turns out the smudge was on my scanner glass and not on the card, but it raised several questions:

1) Despite the fact that the smudge was clearly visible in the auction photo (even had the zoom feature active), the buyer did not ask about it until several hours after the auction ended. Shouldn't that type of question be asked before placing a bid?

2) If it turned out that the smudge was on the card, could the buyer back out of the deal claiming the card was damaged? (again the "smudge" was clearly visible in the auction photo).

Luckily for me, the card was not damaged and the sale should go through. What I'm wondering is how would you guys have handled it if the buyer asked to be let out of the deal. Would you allow him out or not?

If an Ebayer wants out of a deal, just allow it to happen. I've learned there is no point in forcing them, because they will just hit you with a negative regardless.

Yeah. If he does want out, just go ahead and relist it, maybe with a new scan if possible.

Agreed, re-list it. Not worth the risk of getting a negative feedback over it.
