Venting~~~
Allright, I really dont want to start an arguement here(thats not why Im posting this) Im just wondering if anyone has the feelings I do!!!
I have been collecting/trading football cards for about 12 years now, Most of the time, my WANT LISTS have stayed the same, Im a die hard Detroit Lions fan, but also presently collect Dennis Northcutt & Darren Sproles. Im sure some of u have seen most posts regarding who I collect and I have traded with about 50 of u on here now.
What is really starting to get me aggravated is that "some" and i mean SOME people only collect whos HOT!!!! It just bothers me.
If someone replies to a post and says, "Hey Rob, I have a Dennis Northcutt Game used #ed to 550"
In turn, i say check my tradelist, and of course, 75% of the time, people reply with "I like your Ben Roethlesberger Rookie GU" or last yr it was "I like your Tom Brady Auto"
In 1999 it was, I like your Kurt Warner
in 1997, it was I like your John Elway and Jamal Anderson
I like it so much better when people DONT see who they collect on my trade page and they reply simply with "Didnt see anything I collect, sorry pal"
I can live with that reply man!, but when I might see a Northcutt card I like or Sproles card i like or Dre Bly for goodness sake, people will still reply with, I want your Roethlesberger for it!
It just drives me mad sometimes, dont get me wrong, I totally understand the concept of "trade bait" but this is getting ridiculous~
This certainly isnt aimed at anyone inparticular, Im just pissed at how the hobby is just getting greedy and frontrunner
If a moderator thinks this post is sore and wants it deleted, so be it, just wanted to get my frustration out!

i agree completely.. if you dont pull the big name what you have is worthless unless you collect the guy because no new collectors are going after the childhood hero or the 90's superstar... show me someone who collects rod woodson or deion sanders... in basketball some of the best ever are barely collected... i cant even move a GU card of David Robinson or a decent charles barkley insert... in baseball eddie murray and steve carlton are some great players but no one even touches their cards...
most of the people who feel collecting is "gambling" are the collectors of big ben and caddy williams... those people spend 3 times as much now as i can pick up the same card next year... its amazing... you can sell a card now and buy the same one back after enxt years draft at no more than half price...
i will agree it is getting ridiculous... just give me a decent jason collier card and im happy

Totally agree guys...I see a card on someone's list I like (my likes are listed in my sig), and usually I get back "I really like the Favre, Braylon and Caddy autos, and the Kevin Jones, McNabb and Matt Jones autos are nice too. What kind of eclectic crap is that?
Just recently, I've asked about a few cards in the $20-$30 range, and I get replies asking for my high-end autos. I've almost got to the point where I think that nobody actually collects Big Ben, but everyone just wants him for trade bait.
Yeah, I'll pick up a trade bait card once in a while. I'm not going to lie, Rob...the Droughns auto I'm getting from you is going on the trade bait pile. But I think the deal we did was pretty even, and you got a nice Lions GU for your PC, and a Manning jersey you should be able to move.
When I see guys with sigs like "I collect Big Ben, Vick, Chad Johnson, Larry Johnson and Caddy", I don't even bother. What's the friggen point of collecting if you don't actually COLLECT anything. I pick up nice trade bait cards, with the end result of picking up nice Packers and Brewers for my personal collection.

I agree. I do collect Vick and Chad Johnson, but that's because I've liked them since they were rookies. Look at my Vick collection, I have tons of stuff of him and I'm not stopping. I collect Clinton Portis too- he's not a big trade bait player. I have 3 autos of Caddy, but I'm not collecting him, I just have those hoping to be able to trade them for cards of players that I collect. And I actually do collect Big Ben. But his cards are pretty expensive thats why I barely have any. I just got a 2004 Sweet Sigs auto of him that books at $250 and its not for trade because its in my personal collection. I do collect a few players who are good trade bait, but I'm not going to trade my cards of them, because obviously I collect them and don't want to. But the people who "collect" all the big time players who you can trade at any time, that's ridiculous.

agreed
Craigerman - Of course, trade bait is useful once in a while, my friend Im getting the Manning off ya for is actually a University of Tenn. fan, he collects Peerless Price for godsake lol. But yes, im glad some people see where Im comin from. Im sure Im not the first one who has known or seen this, so Im not tooting my own horn by any means, I just wanted to rant about it~,
Hell, I used to collect Travis Prentice and David Boston along with my Lions guys back a few years ago, until Prentice got cut and retire early from the NFL and Boston gained 85 lbs. of rip and an attitude to go with it :new_shock

As a Falcons fan, it depresses me that someone would collect Peerless Price cards...

I have no problem accepting trade bait cards from someone who is looking for a particular player or card that I have, either. I just made a deal with a guy for a lot of nice Bears cards. He didn't have a heck of a lot I was really interested in, but I found some stuff that worked BV-wise, and I got him the cards he wanted. In my opinion, one of the main ideas of this hobby is to help out fellow collectors. It just sucks when someone tries to take advantage of your love for collecting a certain player by asking for a card back that books double what you are asking for.

Maybe I am a oddity in my collecting. I like autos from Lefty Qbs ( I am still looking for a Simms in a pro uni and I nice action shot) I have guys like Jim Zorn, Will Furrer, Fran Curci, Jared Lorenzen. These guys will never make me rich but I really like them beinging that I am a lefty. I like to pull a player from my favorite team. Money cards are a BONUS. I hate the fact that if I go to a show and bring some stuff to trade the dealer will go for the top cards and then low ball you like 125 for a 300 $ card grrrrr.
