Not tomention he has it wrong. He said leases were down 50% and drilling itself was down 14%. His 50% was near enough to be called correct, and Obama explained why that was, and how cutting leases led to drilling being up over his term, not down, as Romney said.

Absolutely not. First, it is not the biggest oil spill ever. Not even close. Second, when Romney is elected, he will lift any moratorium still in place. Obama denied a federal court order to keep it in place in the gulf and recently extended an offshore drilling moratorium for 30 years.

Also, to wick's point, the fact that production is up is a result of exploration and leasing that mostly occurred under the prior administration. Federal leases have a 10-year primary term. That means the lessee has 10 years to drill before the lease expires. I would be willing to bet that no more than 30% of production during the Obama administration is on leases issued by the Obama administration. Thus, production numbers are misleading. If you really want to know how friendly an administration is to domestic energy production, you need to look at the number of permits and leases granted, not the production numbers.Last edited by AUTaxMan; 10-18-2012 at 09:12 PM.

BTW, Guess what? Obama is cutting our defense.... Whats going to happen when war happens with Iran? Oh time to step up America? You need to prepare befofre itit happens???? Anyone Remember Pearl Harbor?????? Obama has zero experince even after 4 years to run this country. No business, no forigien, and no defense policies. It's all about WELFARE...

1: You would willing to bet? Man, that just screams reliable!
2: Why are you talking about what was done in the Bush administration? He's gone. If liberals aren't allowed to mention all the Bush messes Obama has had to clean up, why do you to say good things during Obama's term are because of Bush. Conservative double standard, though you won't admit it, I'm sure.
In short, anything Bush did is moot, or relevant. You can't have of both ways.

I am just explaining how this stuff works based on the knowledge that I've gained over the course of the past 8 years being a professional working in the oil and gas industry on a daily basis.

I don't care if you discovered oil. The fact that you "would be willing to bet" means nothing, in reality. I notice you completely ignored #2. Why are you taling about Bush when he's been gone eight years? If everything bad is Obama's fault because Bush is gone, then everything good is as well. Double standard. Hypocrisy. You can pick what you call it, but it's just ridiculous. Tactics like this used so often by the Republican Party and their HQ, FOX, are why I can't take conservatives seriously. Theyre allowed to do it, but the second someone else does it they cry foul.

It's not a double standard. That's how oil production works. There is usually substantial lag time between the granting of the lease and the actual drilling and production. Credit is to be given to whoever granted the lease, not who happened to be around when production occurred. Sorry if that is inconvenient for your argument.
