2012-13 Upper Deck Series 1 - Yes or No?
I was wondering what anyone has heard about the this year's Upper Deck Hockey Series 1. Due to the current situation, will there still be a release without the big rookies or will the rookies be players be from last year that did not have a YG in series 2.
Will the do something similar to the 2004-05 release?

Kreider and Schwartz I believe are the biggest rookies in the set, so that should say something. Basically, if they haven't played an NHL game yet, they won't be in the YG set (Yakupov, Galchenyuk, etc).

My guess is that they're really hoping that a resolution to the lockout happens in time for UD2. It's always been the weak sister but if they can get the 2012 draft class in UD2 it will substantially improve the product.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

^This.
My guess is that if this gets resolved this year before UD Series 2, Series 1 and 2 will flip places as far as the better buy

So far there will be the same rookie they used in OPC 12-13. Yakopov if he comes back from Russia & plays should be in Series 2. Not sure if Series 2 will even be released if there is no season. Its not looking pretty . I think if they cancel the Winter Classic between TO & Detroit the Season is toast. Its risky that some are paying $40-$55 for the Oilers Rookie Redemption in the 2011-12 Artifacts set. if there is no season 2012-13 season you will not be getting Nail you will be getting an Oilers scrub rookie held out from last season. He will be in all the new 2013-14 sets along with every other major rookie.

I can't imagine that UD would cancel the set. I would think that they'll either use the holdovers, or maybe a mix of holdovers and 'Young Guns' of vets / retired stars. Series 2 will end up having all the big names, if a season gets going in time.

I just tweeted UD the idea that they should make a Retro Young Guns set for all the players that are regular NHL'ers now but didn't get a YG in their actual rookie years. This is a public service to all Max Pacioretty and Josh Gorges fans. LOL
