Rant: "Event Worn Jerseys"
OK, I had to see if some people were thinking the same thing here...
What is with this trend of making millions of event-worn RC of players and, the entire year, all they use are jerseys from the photo shoot day? The original appeal of jersey cards are that the player wore them during a game, almost like it's a piece of history.
My thoughts are:
1) How many jersey were worn during this "event," exactly? Considering Topps, Upper Deck and Donruss/Leaf/Playoff insert these, that makes at least three. With the proliferation of these cards in every product, I'd say it's more like 6. That's almost half a season's worth of game used jerseys!
2) What's preventing them from scoring one during preseason, practice, first few games, etc.? What's wrong with having an arrangement where they change jerseys during halftime to sell one to a card company? It confuses me.
In basketball, it's the same way. I have been collecting Jason Maxiell, and he has been playing since November (October, counting preseason) and every jersey I get, even from the newer products, are "event-worn" from the photo shoot. I'm getting tired of reading that on the back of every card.
Let's see some true game-worn RC's! Thoughts?
