This week's game brings us back to the West Coast, for the battle for Los Angeles, USC vs. UCLA. The season has gone in decidedly opposite directions for these two teams, but the proverbial adage is true: Throw out the records when these two teams meet.
Last year, USC absolutely crushed UCLA, 50-0. But what a difference a year makes. Brett Hundley has emerged as a bona fide star under the lights at UCLA, and Jonathan Franklin has been near the top of the nation's rushing leaders since the opening week. UCLA already has wins over two ranked teams, and are actually favored this year, at home, despite the 50-point loss last year.
The struggles for USC have been well documented, but so has the proficiency of their offensive weapons. Marqise Lee has emerged as one of the best, if not THE BEST receiver in the nation. Robert Woods, Silas Redd (if healthy), Curtis McNeal, and Matt Barkley are all next level talents on the offensive side, and it appears USC has shored up their defensive woes from a few weeks earlier vs. Oregon.
This game is much bigger than it seems. The winner effectively wins the Pac-12 South, earning a spot in the Pac-12 Championship game. If the BCS title game features Oregon, the winner of this game should be picked for the Rose Bowl. Will USC continue their dominance over the Bruins, or will UCLA turn the tables on the Trojans?
