What is it with some people??

My brother got back from the SF tri star show and said that he was disappointed with the dealers. He brought some NICE cards to possibly trade and everybody wanted to lowball him. He later said "It seem that everybody wants to sell you a box for a $100 but if by chance you pull something nice they want to give you nothing for it" He brought a Dan Marino print plate yellow signed and stamped 1/1 from Topps Pristine and he was offered $400 in trade for it. The owner of the store that he pulled it from offered him $500 cash. He also showed his octograph of 8 hof (Montana,Marino,Elway,Tarkinton,Fouts,Dawson, Staubach and Aikman) #4/5 UD LH-1 from 05 Legends. He was told that it was worth $800-1200. My brother told him that he saw one on ebay for 2500 and the guy tells him yeah 2500 this time maybe 1500 the next.
Look I understand table cost and rooms etc etc but if there is a nice piece it should have some value.

Eh, what can ya do? Ya know. Shows typically have lots of singles pretty cheap. But all the trades and stuff they buy, they just go and turn around for double what they got it for. There just jerks. Maybe he just met some bad people?

yea you normally wouldnt want to sell to shop owners or anyone dealers at shows there only looking for the card cheap so they can sell it for double

If you want to make the most money, you have to sell it on ebay where the true collectors are bidding for it. The dealers are in it for re-sale only. Yeah, and they try to give you trade value - not cash. I'm sure a lot of us have similar experiences.

Yeah, there's going to be two types looking for any card; those who want it to have it, and those who want it for resale. Frankly, you should expect those dealers to offer you less. They don't want it to finish their collection; they want it to sell it for more than they bought it for.

I never sell or trade with sellers/dealers. They are not going to give you anywhere near BV simply because there is not enough room for profit. You need to use their game plan. If you want fair market value for your cards deal with a true collector. Maybe they were jerks, but why would they pay $2,500 for a card then turn around and sell it for $2,500 it is a waste of their time and your collection.

Yea its just like selling cars to dealerships opposed to selling it on your own.
