The major increase in USPS rates will effectively prevent me from buying and trading cards with US collectors. I can't afford someone charging me that much for purchases. And noone will want to trade with someone from Canada if they have to pay that much to ship it.
It's amazing that USPS would increase it that much over a one year period. They will effectively have people discontinue using their services. I don't understand their logic on this one. Yea, in theory, their revenue would increase with the increased rates. But have they factored in the decrease in the demand/usage? The net result will be that their revenue on international shipping will decrease. The demand for their services isn't that elastic that they can charge whatever they want to.

Question, would it be cheaper or around the same for Americans to use USPS or Fedex (or DHL or whatever other service they have there)? Those services are usually quicker anyways.

Or would that only be beneficial to use for businesses?

    way to go, USPS!

because clearly the best way to try to salvage any chance of staying in business is to drive away all your customers!

Some other ways the USPS is trying to "stay in business":
    1) Closing over 200 processing facilities which means local mail has to be trucked many miles to the nearest facility, sorted, and trucked back to the local area.

    2) Eliminating 90% of overnight mail delivery making it 2 - 3 day delivery.

    3) Reducing the window hours at over 3,500 post offices to 6, 4 or as little as 2 hours a day!

    4) Granting large businesses discounts up to 30 cents per letter for presorting mail which allows the USPS to save 2 cents per letter in processing costs.

    5) Cutting delivery from 6 days to 5 days per week. The Postmaster General has admitted that cutting Saturday delivery will result in the loss of some customers and some revenue. USPS estimates it would lose almost $700 million in revenue by cutting Saturday delivery.

How long could you continue to sell on eBay if you reduced all of your listings to one day auctions, offered free shipping on a 99 cent item, or delayed shipping by only sending out cards once per week or per month?

This will effectively put me out of business on eBay because I depend on the $1.00 and $2.00 profit sales and sometimes even less.

Sure I am shipping in a re-inforced PWE, but that non-machinable cost will effectively go from $1.05 to Canada, to $2.10 per PWE.

    Balderdash....
