Only thing a lotto ticket does not cost someone a life

    I'll put it this way:
Putting metal detectors in schools where an incident happens every 30 years to never is like buying every lottery ticket in the store because one of them just has to be a winner.

So it is not logical to protect our schools in some way?So the law enforcement we swear in to duty is not qualified to protect. Now this is just me but as a kid your kind of taught and shown that police are good.So they would not scare children.Seems we are taking a step back again in our discussions so tell me what is your idea of protecting schools. And please don't say stricter gun laws i mean physical presence protection.

Are we talking metal detectors or police presence in school?
I argued for more police presence in all schos and was told it wouldn't do anything (don't remember who said it, but I'm sure I was wrong due to my Canadian-ness.

Now when I say more police presence I don't mean placing armed officers in schools standing guard at the doors. I mean make school halls a part of "the beat". Have officers just walk through the schools, maybe get to know a few of the kids. That doesn't create dear. That creates a replied and a relationship. It could go a long way to not only preventing a mass shooting, but to fixing the relationship the police currently have with the people. I remember when you could trust a cop just because he was a cop. I miss that.

If you want to turn police officers into armed guards and stand them at the doors with AKs I'll he against you all day. If you're good with officers being present in schools at any given time, then I'm with you 100%

There's no need to go all or nothing.

After a few threads I realize your all about give a little not all or nothing. And i agree back when I was in school we had a NY police officer who walked the school during school hiurs and during sports events.it is a beat patrol and gets to know the staff and kids for safety.BUT HE IS ARMED with his duty weapon.Noo need for an ar15 or whatever but he is armed with duty weapon.

An armed officer doing a walk through I have no problem with.
Placing armed officers or guards at the doors of a school I have a major problem with.

    That's all I'm saying.

But remember it's a small town. The local cop is rarely there...or anywhere. Have you ever lived in an area of 10,000 or less? I grew up in one. You know everyone in your K-7 school by first and last name. The creepy guy who all the kids are told to stay away from gets rides to the bar from the very parents warning those kids. You sneeze on one side of town and everyone on the other side thinks you have a cold. If there's any sort of event at least 75% of the town is there and the biggest crime committed during is a side of beef gets stolen. There's no metal detector at the bank, or.armed guard for that matter, and it hasn't been robbed since everything came in on stagecoach.

So I agree wholeheartedly. I just don't think it will look like what you want.
