Since the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are in town for a series with the Chicago White Sox, today I went to an appearance at former Texas Rangers and current Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson's namesake car dealership and motorcycle shop in Countryside, IL. Wilson was standing outside talking to everyone who came up, just chatting about cars, motorcycles, his future, etc, very funny and engaging, and he signed everything given to him. I got 10 cards signed, for free.

samsdad-No, he's not, which is what makes it so interesting to me. He was born in California, went to college in California, and none of his minor league stops were near Illinois. So, I have no idea why he owns a dealership in Countryside, IL!

Yesterday, I went to an appearance by former Chicago White Sox pitching great Jack McDowell, at a grand opening of a store in Evergreen Park, IL. McDowell signed a ball, inscribed with '93 AL CY, an 8x10 with the same inscription, and 7 cards, for free.

Yesterday, I went to a book signing by legendary NBA player and coach, Phil Jackson, who was signing copies of his new book, Eleven Rings. He would only sign copies of her book, so I got two books signed, in Skokie, IL.

Today, I went to the Kane County Cougars versus Beloit Snappers game at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, in Geneva, IL. The Kane County Cougars are in thier first season as the single A club of the Chicago Cubs, and the Beloit Snappers are the single A club of the Oakland Athletics.
For Beloit, I got one signature of 1st baseman Matt Olson.
For Kane County, I got two signatures by 2nd baseman Gioskar Amaya, 2 signatures from 2rd baseman Jeimer Candelario, 1 signature by pitcher Pierce Johnson, and 1 signature from 1st baseman Dan Vogelbach.
Pictures of the autographed cards of Olson, Amaya, Candelario, Johnson, and Vogelbach:

However, the main reason I went was to see the home debut of Cubs prospect Albert Almora. He just joined Kane County this week, and after watching him play, he will not stay in Single A for long, he is just that good. I was able to get him to sign two cards and an OMLB.

Looks good. A few years ago, I went to a book signing for PJ. Same policy - no outside items. But I told him a few quick stories of what a big fan I was, and I got him to sign a basketball card. He was cool with it. I just had to sneak it by the handlers.

The book signings are tough, because at stores like Barnes & Noble, they actually take the book from you, put it in front of the author, and then take it out the other side, so it becomes quite obvious when you are trying to slip something else. They made an announcement that they would confiscate any memorabilia put on the table. I always bring stuff to try to get it done, but have had no success at most book signings (Phil Jackson, Gabby Douglas, Dwyane Wade, Andre Dawson [at a Sam's Club with 10 people total waiting for a planned 2 hour signing], Cal Ripken Jr.). The only one that I had success was Jeremy Roenick, as long as you bought a book, he would sign anything else you wanted. Wish others thought that way!

Yesterday, I went to the Gary-Southshore Railcats versus Sioux Falls Canaries minor league baseball game at The Steelyard in Gary, IN. Both teams are independent, playing in the American Association.
For Gary-Southshore, I got two autographs on trading cards of former Milwaukee Brewers prospect Cristian Guerrero.
Photo of the Guerrero autographs (he signed right on his name on the first card, making it tough to see):

For Sioux Falls, I got:
3 autographs on trading cards of former Colorado Rockies prospect Jared Clark, 1 autograph on trading card of former Washington Nationals prospect Tim Pahuta,
1 autograph on trading card of former Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Alan DeRatt,
1 autograph on trading card of former Kansas City Royals prospect Nick Van Stratten,
4 autographs on trading cards of former Washington Nationals prospect J.P. Ramirez.

Finally, former Purdue basketball star, 2011 2nd round draft pick of the Boston Celtics, and current Orlando Magic guard E'Twaun Moore was in attendance, promoting his upcoming basketball camp, and I got 1 8x10 signed and 5 trading cards signed.

Today I attended the Chicago Bears Day at Arlington Racetrack. In attendance and signing autographs for free were former Bears Tom Thayer, Steve McMichael, and Shaun Gayle, and current Chicago Bear Corey Wootton. I got 2 8x10's and 2 trading cards signed by Corey Wootton, and had McMichael and Gayle sign a Bears helmet 8x10 which Thayer autographed at the 2012 Chicago Bears Day at Arlington Racetrack.
I was especially pleased, because yesterday I went to a signing at a store grand opening with Corey Wootton, and he would only sign a store poster, no outside memorabilia. I hate driving an hour out of my way for that! It wasn't even a glossy 8x10, it was an oversized poster. Grr.
Anyway, photo of the Wootton 8x10's and cards:
