Still one of the best piece of news for any Islander fan. Already 0-3 this year all three games save pct under .900, any decent backup and we might even be in a playoff spot right now. Thanks for all the nightmares Rick.

best for both at the moment. The Isles need a backup that can win and DiPietro needs games if he's ever going to come back. In the AHL, Rick will likely be a split-starter and get a chance to build himself back up without the pressure of the NHL.
Of course, more likely, is that he'll probably play a couple AHL games and then be out with another hip or some other injury.

I feel sorry for Islanders fans. At least here in Buffalo after enduring some years of crap management we have some people who are trying - even if the process isn't as fast as many people are hoping for. Downstate ya'll gotta put up with a guy who is doing everything he can to stay around the cap floor without even trying to improve the team.
There are things worse than being a Sabres fan.

Crazy stat du jour - should the Islanders choose to deploy one of their cap compliance buyouts on DiPietro, they will be paying him $1.5M per season until 2028-29. That is not a typo.

Eh, it's nothing they're not already used to. They've been paying a cap hit on Yashin - and still have 2 more years - and he hasn't played for them since 06/07. Since that is about to run out, Wang clearly needs a new player to pay to not help the team.

They have Nabby they don't need him. Still a ridiculous situation tho. Very poor signing.
