the principal is an idiot (if story is true) the speaker could have done a better job, but the student could have attended it, whether she approved or not

    Really?
So people should just shut up and sit through the deliberate misinforming of children quietly?

    Really?

i know birth control is up to the parents and informing teens about birth control is a parental duty, and not having sex is the only way to guarantee no pregnancy, BC and condoms are not 100% fullproof.

and it was a school function, so yes she should attend, not all people agree with contact sports, but don't they have to go to the prep rallies?
not all people believe in evolution, so should they get out of science class?

she could have helped educate others before and after and sat through it so she knew what to educate others on.

there is nothing wrong with listening to something, she would not have been brainwashed and she should abide by the rules whether she agrees or not

Really? Was that the message sent with comments like:
“if you take birth control, your mother probably hates you"
“I could look at any one of you in the eyes right now and tell if you’re going to be promiscuous"
    Really?

Pep rallies were optional for me. Well attended, but lacking stoners in the crowd.
Really? Science class? This was not a class.

she could have helped educate others before and after and sat through it so she knew what to educate others on.

Or she could have said something before this wingnut even showed up in the belief that she shouldn't have to deprogram kids from thinking:
"any type of sex will guarantee the contraction of an STD or an unwanted pregnancy."

there is nothing wrong with listening to something, she would not have been brainwashed and she should abide by the rules whether she agrees or not

Does this apply to everyone or just those you agree with?
Should pro lifers just go home because "them's the rules"?
Should gay rights activists give up because "that's just the way it is"?
You think we should be misinforming our youth to re-teach them?
Should people who want to end the deliberate miseducation of the nation's children just be quiet because "there's always time to re-teach them"? Who has that time?

This young girl saw something very wrong before it happened, was proven right when it did happen and had her entire future put in jeopardy by a small minded, conservative, political man, who see nothing wrong with bringing someone in to tell his students:
“if you take birth control, your mother probably hates you"
“I could look at any one of you in the eyes right now and tell if you’re going to be promiscuous"
"any type of sex will guarantee the contraction of an STD or an unwanted pregnancy."

Why should taxpayers be have to finance deliberate gov't misinformation?

You quoted this article, but apparently didn't read it or only read the parts you wanted to be upset about...

Campbell refused to attend the assembly, which was funded by a conservative religious organization called “Believe in West Virginia”

That article is inaccurate to some degree. This has been minor news in WV for about a week now. There has been no mention of the speaker telling students that "every instance of sexual contact will lead to a sexually transmitted infection" or “if you take birth control, your mother probably hates you”. This article is the first time I have heard any of these comments.

For point of reference, this girl didn't even attend this abstinence rally. It was entirely voluntary and she did not attend. All this is is a little drama queen looking for some spotlight time.

Also her principal threatening to call the college is being construed as squashing her right to free speech, but free speech is limited in public school when it becomes a distraction or disruption. If she is becoming a disruption to the daily school process then the reference that the school gives to a college should, and in any other instance would, include information concerning a disruptive issue.

If it was voluntary and SHE is the drama queen, why is the principle threatening to ruin her entire future over this "voluntary" assembly?
And who's the real drama queen?

Do you think this is worth ruining her future over?
Do you think the principle should have that right over something as stupid as this? Especially when she was bang on about it without even attending?

I notice you didn't say anything about: “I could look at any one of you in the eyes right now and tell if you’re going to be promiscuous"
You think that's appropriate to tell a room full of impressionable youth?

You are taking those comments that the speaker supposedly said with too much seriousness. There has been no mention of her saying any of that stuff. Maybe she did, but I don't see it as that big of an issue if she said that she could look them in the eyes and tell. I work with teens on a daily basis and feel confident that I could tell you which ones are and are not sexually active. It's not rocket science.

And no, I don't think it is worth ruining her future over, but maybe she should think about that too. If she opposes this rally then that is her right. It is not her right to disrupt the education of every other student in that school with news media attention so she can make her point and get her 15 minutes. If her education is so important then she needs to get her priorities straight and not think that she can create a disruption that impairs the education process of an entire school and the school is supposed to just accept it because her future is more important. Her right to speak out IS NOT more important that the education of every other student in that school.

so you think i agree with the speech because I said she should attend it?

you are telling me teens are so dumb that they would believe this speech (if it even happened) and not verify it with their parents or other sources?

my kids would have come home and told us about it, then we would have been at the school

and yes, I would have made them attend
