This is a bunch of junk taken out of context. look at anything written and you will see Christianity involved.
I am unsure why there is a need to try and downplay religion with the founding of this country, religious freedom was the reason most came here, and everything written by the founding fathers and all the way to lincoln was full of biblical quotes and religious thought.
even good old Ben was moved by Christianity, so much so, his frugal self, emptied his pockets in the collection plate.

Because in order to create a better future, we need petty arguments about the past!

LOL.
Ben Franklin was the biggest deist of them all and frowned upon the utter nonsense that is Christianity.
And most of the founders were far from being christians (THANK GOD!).
And the constitution is the biggest proof that they wanted to make a 100% purely SECULAR country where religion did NOT mix with government.Last edited by JustAlex; 05-02-2013 at 04:43 PM.

Alex, like I said, Ben was so moved by a preacher, he emptied his pockets out and Jefferson cried
and nearly all were Christians, look at their personal letters and even public speeches, but in whole, not in parts, the Bible and God was all over it. don't believe the nonsense you here today, that has some need to separate religion from everything, for in fact religion was in everything, including our founding fathers private and public lives.

^ Personally Shrew, I believe most of them were deist and you can tell from the way they spoke of the christian religion.
The quotes are NOT taken out of context, they really did not like religion, and saw the danger it posed to government.
The Treaty of Tripoli is the BEST and most clear proof that the U.S was NOT founded on the christian religion.
The founders may have called themselves Christians but they were not religious in the way they governed and that was the most important factor.

Alex, that may be true. Or it may be that, while they were in fact devout Christians, they saw a nation where the God you worship doesn't matter. Does that mean they didn't like religion and saw it as a threat to government?
No, they simply saw religious belief as no reason for inequality. I only wish you agreed.

Christianity and it's insane American manifestations is the largest draw-back to your countries standing in the World. People like you somewhat, but don't trust you.
You can tell yourself you're wonderful, but the World looks at your 30 million christian lunatics that want to live in 1860, and just shakes their heads, ending in mockery and laughter.
Time to grow up.

alex, there has been some strange need to separate our founding fathers from Christianity because some Christians will try to use it to some advantage and the other side fears this.
whether they were christian or not makes no difference when it comes to our laws and constitution. some of our great leaders like Lincoln, struggled with this, but kept himself neutral and in accord to the laws and constitution. many use this as he wasn't anti slavery, which is crap. what he was, was a leader of everybody, and wanted to reflect everyone's beliefs, he also stayed within the constitution, and could not find a way to simply outlaw slavery within constitutional rights, and lincoln quoted the Bible.
4 signers of the declaration of independence were full time preachers, and all of them had a Christian based religious affiliation, everyone of them.
Ben Franklin attended masses and emptied out his pockets after listening to George Whitefield preach.
and with all of that said, I never said this country was founded on christian laws, just the founders were christian.
and yes you are correct, most of them did not try to tell people to follow their religious beliefs.
what you are missing is, how on earth would you run a country using the NT?

The united states was never intended to be a christian nation. If so the name Jesus Christ would have been written in the Constitution, BOR or the DOI. Nowhere in any of those doccuments can he be found. If you want to argue that the word God was used in some of those doccuments how do we know that the founding fathers did not intend for us to be a jewish nation?
